The FReeper Foxhole Honors our Veterans - November 11th, 2005
Department of Veterans Affairs and The Foxhole

Posted on 11/10/2005 9:22:39 PM PST by snippy_about_it

Lord,

Keep our Troops forever in Your care

Give them victory over the enemy...

Grant them a safe and swift return...

Bless those who mourn the lost.
.

FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer
for all those serving their country at this time.

...................................................................................... ...........................................

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues

Where Duty, Honor and Country
are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.

Our Mission:

The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans.

In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support.

The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer.

If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions.

We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

Veterans Day

To our veterans - Thank You

Veterans Day

A day set aside to honor our country's living veterans. At the Foxhole honoring veterans is a major part of our mission.

Whereas we will not forget those who died or our POW/MIAs, and those who are currently serving, today we specifically honor those men and women living among us who have served our country in times past, our living veterans.

Especially here at the Foxhole we are blessed to have veterans as part of our Foxhole family both as readers and contributors.

We would like to welcome all our veterans to the Foxhole on this very special day as we attempt to honor you and thank you for your service to our country. Freedom is not free and our debt to you and those gone before you can never fully be paid. May God richly bless you all. Welcome home and we will never forget.

It matters not where, when or how your served; here at home or in a foreign land, in the air, at sea or on land; in peacetime or in war, on the battefield or behind a desk; on supply lines; as an engineer, a mechanic, an infantrymen, a cook or medic. You chose to volunteer or fullfilled your duty by the draft and served America and we are forever grateful. Every job is important as they all support each other and the cause of freedom.

Some sacrifices are greater, yes, and some service more dangerous than others, yet all service is sacrifice by the troop and their family and we highly respect that service. Some gave all, all gave some.

Thank you all - from SAM and snippy

"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman." --Thomas Paine, Founding Father

"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their Nation."
--George Washington

"Let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain."
--Dwight D. Eisenhower

Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty.

Yeah, I stock up on it.

My theory is we all caught it from BittyGirl. She was sick on Saturday. I got it next (Yesterday), then PE this morning, and Karateboy tonight. We are too close together to have given it to each other (not enough time to incubate, you know).

The kids seem to bounce back quicker or at least don't "feel" as sick as we adults. PE has been in bed all day, as was I yesterday. BittyGirl didn't act sick at all. KarateBoy so far only acts sick when he is about to barf. He does not have a fever, but I fed him two Advil Jr. tablets anyway.

Sure wish BittyGirl would go to sleep... She got ahold of my diet coke awhile ago. I have no idea how much she drank. LOL, it might be a long night.

Neil Cavuto interviewed Ollie North tonight who reported the damage done to our people's morale by the cut-and-run cockaroaches.

History Channel Shootout! recreates Marines in a series of Afghani firefights doing what Marines do--not what Murtha is doing.

I would have gone Lincoln/FDR War Powers on these fifth-column politicos and media whores, herding them into abandoned subway tunnels with a bucket as the executive washroom and a menu from the DPRK drive-thru.

Regarding enemy combatants, they have no right to anything but detention for the duration. Mark Levin, Men In Black, makes the point crystal clear.

Mohammed Al Bombbelt or Jay Rockefeller, all aboard the bus for Camp Purgatory.

Good Workers

Read:
Exodus 35:30-36:1

Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings. —Proverbs 22:29

Bible In One Year: 1 Corinthians 5-8

cover During the early years of our marriage, my wife and I attempted to wallpaper our dingy Chicago apartment. We completed the project, but not without a great deal of difficulty. At one point I even had to remove a poorly-hung section of paper and go to the store to buy more. I learned to appreciate someone who could do a job like wallpapering with skill.

I marvel when I see a carpenter make things fit without measuring and remeasuring again and again. I admire the truckdriver who masterfully backs his big rig into a tight space more easily than I do a small trailer on a 16-foot-wide driveway. I take my hat off to the plumber who so easily and good-naturedly installed a water heater in a small, seemingly inaccessible area—especially when I think of all the frustration I experienced when trying to attach a simple water filter.

We read in today's Scripture about the skilled designers and weavers who helped construct the tabernacle. Proverbs 22:29 says that a person who excels in his work "will stand before kings." And Paul wrote, "Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord" (Colossians 3:23).

God is pleased with work done well. He honors good workers, and so should we. —Herb Vander Lugt

O Lord, I ask for strength to do
The task that You've assigned;
Help me to work with diligence,
Lest Your name be maligned. —Fasick

Work done well will receive God's "Well done!"

Religious History
1654 French mathematician Blaise Pascal, 31, underwent a profound religious conversion. He thereupon abandoned his study of science, having realized that "the Christian religion obliges us to live only for God, and to have no other aim than him."
1729 German_born John Philip Boehm, 46, was formally ordained a pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church. Boehm had previously come to America in 1720, where he began organizing religious services among German Reformed immigrants in Pennsylvania.
1742 English revivalist George Whitefield wrote in a letter: 'Two things I would earnestly recommend to your constant study: the book of God, and your own heart. These two, well understood, will make you an able minister of the New Testament.'
1947 E. L. Sukenik of Jerusalem's Hebrew University first received word of the existence of the Dead Sea Scrolls. The documents, dating between 200 BC and AD 70, had been accidentally discovered the previous winter (1946_47) by two Bedouin shepherds in the vicinity of Qumran.
1970 Pope Paul VI issued a decree barring cardinals over the age of 80 from voting for a new pope.

KIM JONG IL WANTS TO APPEAR ON AMERICAN IDOL

By NICK JEFFREYS

PYONGYANG, North Korea -- North Korean tyrant Kim Jong Il will do anything -- even promise to destroy his beloved nukes -- to perform on hit American TV show American Idol, say insiders.
"Mr. Il has always been convinced he has the finest singing voice in the world," says a source close to the deranged dictator, who is notorious for ruthlessly running his country as a Stalinist police state.
"He makes no secret of it, either. He drives us nuts with Elvis imitations and show-tunes. Oh, God in Heaven, it's enough to make you want to stab yourself. Of course we tell him his singing is incredible. The last man stupid enough to tell him he was off key was deported to South Korea. By air. Without a parachute."

Kim Jong Il is sure that American Idol producers will let him on the show if he promises to destroy his weapons of mass destruction.
Explains the source, "Mr. Il says: 'Americans are so very naive. They will believe anything.' "
Kim Jong plans to perform his favorite tune as a tribute to himself -- "I'm So Pretty" from West Side Story.

"Mr. Il believes even that snooty British guy Simon will be so moved he'll weep after his emotional rendition, which he'll accompany with graceful dance moves.
"He thinks he'll win by a landslide. Of course, all North Korean citizens will be expected to call in and vote for him or they'll be introduced to the sport of chuteless sky-diving."

Thought for the day :
In curved Einsteinian space we are at all times, technically, looking at the back of our own head."
