The FReeper Foxhole Honors our Veterans - November 11th, 2005
Department of Veterans Affairs and The Foxhole

Posted on 11/10/2005 9:22:39 PM PST by snippy_about_it

Lord,

Keep our Troops forever in Your care

Give them victory over the enemy...

Grant them a safe and swift return...

Bless those who mourn the lost.
.

FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer
for all those serving their country at this time.

...................................................................................... ...........................................

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues

Where Duty, Honor and Country
are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.

Our Mission:

The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans.

In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support.

The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer.

If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions.

We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

Veterans Day

To our veterans - Thank You

Veterans Day

A day set aside to honor our country's living veterans. At the Foxhole honoring veterans is a major part of our mission.

Whereas we will not forget those who died or our POW/MIAs, and those who are currently serving, today we specifically honor those men and women living among us who have served our country in times past, our living veterans.

Especially here at the Foxhole we are blessed to have veterans as part of our Foxhole family both as readers and contributors.

We would like to welcome all our veterans to the Foxhole on this very special day as we attempt to honor you and thank you for your service to our country. Freedom is not free and our debt to you and those gone before you can never fully be paid. May God richly bless you all. Welcome home and we will never forget.

It matters not where, when or how your served; here at home or in a foreign land, in the air, at sea or on land; in peacetime or in war, on the battefield or behind a desk; on supply lines; as an engineer, a mechanic, an infantrymen, a cook or medic. You chose to volunteer or fullfilled your duty by the draft and served America and we are forever grateful. Every job is important as they all support each other and the cause of freedom.

Some sacrifices are greater, yes, and some service more dangerous than others, yet all service is sacrifice by the troop and their family and we highly respect that service. Some gave all, all gave some.

Thank you all - from SAM and snippy

"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman." --Thomas Paine, Founding Father

"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their Nation."
--George Washington

"Let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain."
--Dwight D. Eisenhower

Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty.

The second post is harder, am not convinced totally. Looks good though, 90% or more.

The below stuff is from reading between the lines and knowing a tiny bit of theory -

Long wavelength synthetic aperture space born sea reconnaissance radar. Pick up a hiding submarine a thousand feet underwater like you see a goldfish in a goldfish bowl. This approach combined with JSTAR technology - ah. Track a single man walking in the desert from a hundred miles up. Shucks, see his footprints a day later.

The American Indians were a formidable and extremely dangerous enemy in 1640. By 1880 they were just targets. G-G-G-G-Granduncles, some of them. Technology change. Why wait.

Oh, yeah, I have some 20% stuff in mind, extremely effective weapons. Way more effective even than a Free Electron Laser battle station.

Let Go!

Read:
Hebrews 3:7-19

Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. —Hebrews 3:15

Bible In One Year: 2 Thessalonians 1-3, Acts 18:12-19:10

cover A 14-year-old North Carolina boy refused to stop playing his Nintendo Game Boy during school hours. The principal was called in and he still refused to stop. When the school liaison officer tried to search him, the teen kicked and punched him. The police were summoned, yet the boy adamantly resisted. Only after the officers gave him two shocks from a Taser gun were they able to remove the toy from him. He was uninjured, but one officer was bitten by the boy.

How can someone be so obstinate! Consider Pharaoh's stubborn refusal to let God's people go despite numerous plagues (Exodus 5-9). Only after the seventh plague did Pharaoh begin to relent (9:27-28).

Pharaoh was foolish to harden his heart against God. Yet look at who hardened their hearts in the wilderness. Hebrews 3:15-16 says, "If you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses?" Even those who had seen God's deliverance from slavery in Egypt rebelled against Him!

Today, let us ponder whether God is speaking to us. Could it be that we are clinging to some "toy" and refusing to let Him be Lord of our lives? —Albert Lee

Dear Lord, help us when we don't know what to do.
Help us most of all when we know what to do but don't want to do it.
May it never be said that we cling tightly to what displeases You. Amen.

God must rule our hearts if our feet are to walk His way.

Blind driver's 167mph record

A blind father of two has claimed a new world land speed record by reaching 167.32mph in a specially-made BMW M5.
Mike Newman, 43, from Sale, Cheshire, was hoping to become the first blind person to break the 200mph barrier.
But he ran out of room on the track at Elvington Airfield, near York, and had to settle for breaking his previous record of 144mph.
He said: "Hopefully I have raised awareness ahead of World Sight Day and shown that you can achieve anything you want."

Event organisers said the record was set after the average speed was taken from two runs.
Mr Newman hoped to break the 200mph barrier but was thwarted as he ran out of room on the track. He said: "It has been a wonderful day."
The record has to be officially confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records.

John Galloway, who helped organise the record attempt, said: "This is a marvellous achievement.
"Mike drove totally unassisted. It is a fantastic achievement and has been one of the most emotional days of my life."

I've seen them....and I wouldn't cross the street to see them again

IMO (Freely given and worth almost that much) Nudes are the hardest type of photograph to do well. and not many have done it.

Wynn Bullock, Harry Callahan, Edward Weston 3 that come to mind.

We spent the day maeesing around in the garage yesterday, building a bed for Spiderboy. In the process, we took his old tricycle down. Bittygirl had a blast. She's nearly figured out how the pedals work.

[Okay, since you're gonna be serious today . . . ]

I forgot that your line of work was landscape architecture . . . as I've gotten older, I've developed an appreciation for scenic pictures. It's why my wife and I elected to both design and develop our yard. It's a work in progress but it's an enjoyable past time.

Everything I learned about photography, aperture, lighting ratios, framing, etc., I learned on a movie/TV set. It's a squirrelly industry (that I'm glad to be out of) but when these cinema-graphic pros set up a shot, you hear the best schools of training.
