I am looking for info to the best place to get a good deal on kit/salvage guns. I am also looking for advice on the best way to go about getting an ffl for part-time business applications.

Welcome to FR.

Good luck getting an FFL on a 'part time' basis.

I didn't think it was that difficult.

Is there any particular problem getting a FFL for "part-time"? I did that exact thing back in the 70's or early 80's. Wasn't any problems then, but I am aware that Clinton Happened. Saw a bumper sticker yesterday- Clinton Happens.

You can't get a FFL working out of your home. The way I understand it, you need an actual store front in a properly zoned area. This makes it hard on part time gunsmiths, etc. Then you have to worry about all the gubmint thugs trying to catch you with the tiniest paperwork error, so they can hang you out to dry. Not to mention the people they will send in trying to make strawman purchases. Forget about them going after real criminals, that's too much work. If you haven't, read Unintended Consequences by John Ross. You may want to opt for a C&R license to have fun with. No doing any business with that one though.

I'd check with your local range. They'll have all of the LEGAL ways to get the ffl.

Exactly.

I held an FFL, with an NFA endorsement, from 1983 'til 2002. That's a "machine gun dealer," in common parlance. The only reason I persisted for so long was to outlast Clinton- but in fairness, it was changes to the law in 1986 that effectively put me out of business... the other changes during Little Big Fraud's reign of terror were just icing on the cake. Be really, really careful of new laws you agree to- they have a way of having "Unintended Consequences..."

It's not worth the expense, hassle, and potential for liablility in our suit-happy society. Just remember the first law of guerilla warfare- if you really need a weapon? You take it from the man who already has one...
