I had my internet service upgraded today. The Frontier Communications tech was here to make some changes. After he was all set, while he was still here and his company truck still in my driveway, he asked my to connect to my network to see if all was well. I opened my iPad and as usual it listed a few local networks whose signal it was reading. It listed the usual few neighbors' networks that come up every time. It also listed:
"NSA mobile surveillance unit 981"
I've never seen this before, and since his truck left an hour ago, it hasn't come up,again. I took a photo, but I don't know how to post a photo...
I named a network NSA Neighborhood Monitor. Relax and find the humor.
NSA = No Such Agency.
That’s just what one of your smartass neighbors named their WiFi network...
for several years, there have been signs of this spying against American citizens
1. huge gigantic super-sized VenteGrande new spying headquarters in Utah
2. arrests of people for things that are only on their computers (via the internet).... there would be no way for most of these to ever come to the govt’s attention except for massive spying against American citizens
3. oops, sorry gotta go...there’s a really LOUD knocking at the front door....
It’s become the thing to do to feed paranoia. Don’t worry. If you’ve been black bagged, you’ll never know it. (Stop picking your nose)
Whatever you do don’t tell Dr. Johnny Fever.
Unit 981? Should be disguised as a landscape service truck. the 700 series are mounted in the mail trucks (ever notice how you are now occasionally seeing mail trucks cruising residential streets even on Sundays?)
If it was NSA do you really think you would know?
Like others have said, this is a neighbor being funny.
Probably the wifi name of his cell phone.
That’s a pretty clever thing I’m going to have to play around with.
Great idea. That would really screw with our paranoid lib neighbors.
Maybe I’ll change mine to “FBI Mobile Unit”...of course that means Female Body Inspector.
If you have an android phone and gmail, go to myactivity.google.com.
Choose “other activity” ==> timeline
Enjoy!
Note, I’m sure this information can be acquired by the government via subpoena.
I once name my LAN wireless network “FBI surveillance” to scare my neighbors.
If NSA was really monitoring in your neighborhood (or anywhere else) do you actually believe they would broadcast and call themselves “NSA mobile surveillance unit 981”?
My wifi is “KGB Safe House #42”.
My wireless LAN routers broadcast CIA and an FBI identities
[ “NSA mobile surveillance unit 981” ]
It’s a joke by one of your neighbors like “FBI surveillance van”.
Not to worry. The way data is collected these days, they don’t need to self-identify on your list of wireless nodes.
If NSA was really monitoring in your neighborhood (or anywhere else) do you actually believe they would broadcast and call themselves NSA mobile surveillance unit 981?
