WASHINGTON
America's most interesting development since November is the Republican Party becoming more interesting. Consider the congressman from Grand Rapids, Mich., who occupies the seat once held by Gerald Ford, the embodiment of vanilla Republicanism.
I thought that the two Southfield candidates running against Clarke and Peters were (i) the black Mayor and (ii) a Jewish city tresurer or some such. Peters would have beaten Clarke on primary day (I’m not talking about a hypothetical run-off, which would have much lower turnout) even had it been one-on-one. Maybe Clarke being 50% Bangladeshi hurt him, and the Southfield Mayor running alone could have won.
I think that Peters wil lrun for governor or Senator just to avoid that 2014 House primary.

You can see the primary candidates here from 2012. I still think Peters commands enough support to be renominated in 2014, barring some hugely popular Black challenger. Clarke may run again, but unless this is an open seat, I don’t see him winning (and ‘14 may feature a depressed Black turnout as well, so a single White candidate absent Peters from Oakland County could take it).
I stand corrected. I’m pretty sure that a Jewish candidate from Southfield (a city or county officer IIRC) had filed to run, but I guess that he or she dropped out prior to the primary.
Being half-White sure hurt Obama in 2000 against Bobby Rush, it may have been the centerpiece of Rush's campaign. But Rush was Black, Peters is not. Those other 2 Black candidates cost Clarke the win.
Met and talked with him 6 times at least. Very cunning calculating arab american. Uses transparency as his call to fame, explaining every vote on Facebook and his goal is to not miss a vote ever. But repeatedly, he votes against his party when it doesn’t really count because the vote is going to be one sided anyway, then he uses these instances of “ Independent Thought” to statistically show how independent he is.
His achilles heel is the moslum question. Try and say anything bad against islam or moslums or arabs and he can’t control his response. .....always defending the latter.
I wish I could trust him but he seems to be controlled by someone or thing. Of course he is better than a baby killing democrat so I support him .....for now. But until I see him come out and attack the moslum religion, I will consider him a puppet whose strings are thousands of miles long.
I take yours and cripplecreek’s knowledge of Mr. Amash on their face as truth. Thanks for sharing this deeper perspective.
I don’t really have anything bad to say about the guy. No one is perfect, I just really like what Dr Steele has to say.
Puhleas !
Heard Wills running commentary during Trump- UK visit. I have no use for him
Hes my rep. I didnt vote for him the past 2 cycles. Sure dont want him as senator.
