The absence of this sort of quick-thinking, intellectually-reinforced, easily-understood presentation style is precisely why conservatism is in the pits right now.

American culture has devolved in all spheres and sectors. Competence is harder and harder to find.

    Loved the interview. Thank you!
I don't have to agree with Phil Donahue's politics to say that I miss shows like his -- shows that made you think, and allowed you to hear the newsmakers of the day talk in more than edited, 30-second soundbites -- shows that had intelligence even if that intelligence didn't come from the host.
I used to come home from high school and sit & watch Donahue with my dad, and talk about what Donahue and the guest had to say.
The one recurring guest that made Dad nuts was Vladimir Posner. He'd say, "That man is the devil -- he looks like you & me, talks like you and me, but he isn't you and me. He's a communist propagandist -- a wolf in sheep's clothing. Don't believe a word he says."

Yes, there are no talk shows like Phil’s anymore. He was a pioneer even though he was a flaming liberal. There are tons of clips on you tube of Milton Friedman if you are interested.

I remember watching Ayn Rand on the Donahue show.
I also remember her making no bones about her disdain for then president Carter

That and that there are so few "conservatives" who actually practice, (advocate, vote for) what Milton Friedman preaches. It's hard to make a pithy case for something you only believe in once every two years - just long enough to fool the rubes at election time.
