I was once a loney freeper. A freeper without a "1", pleasently picking on user "Ash" daily, now I have a (one)"1". What did I win to become a 'one'?
Back in the days of Teddy Roosevelt, I signed on to FR. (May, 98.) Then somebody hit the wrong button and BOOFF! I was eliminated, disenfranchised, erased from memory. Gone, Capute!
Subsequently, posing as a lurker, I saw an old thread I had started from July, '98. I tried to post to it.
Nothing.
I tried again.
Nothing!
I emailed JimRob. He said my user ID was gone! Not banished, not erased, not booted,, just gone! The mystery is enough to make you cry! I was a "nothing". (Although after this post and with the kitties getting to me that could change)
So being the great and all mighty (JimRob), he gave me a new user ID, pretty much like the old one, except it had a "1".
Years went by. Then sign on dates became the thing to have. This is where I was disenfranchised. I had a 2000 user ID but signed on in '98. The earlier my sign-on date was i assumed the more intelligent I just had to be!
If that wasn't enough, down the road a new user signed on with my old user name and completely ruined my image!! On top of it all, that one old thread which had made me famous was deleted, so I have no proof
I'm doomed! I want a recount!!!! DUH! Call Jesse Jackson, Gloria Allred!! (Get me Ann Coulter's cell number!)
Now if I could just find my keys or glasses....

I, too, had a FReeper name from 1997 or 1998. I can't remember what it was, or the password, the old computer caught a virus and died, and I stopped lurking for a while, so I had to re-register.
I STILL feel like a newbie. (*sigh*)

BTW, when was Deep in the Hurtgen Forest on FR? Do you remember the year?
And the whole WaPoLAT lawsuit thing? I remember all that, and Clarity, and seeing Trixie post here, and other stuff.
Deep was here back in the days around the March for Justice, so that would be "after Ash" but "before Jack Thompson" era.

WOW,, I forgot about him. Wasn't he the WH or Capitol Hill employee who always had the inside scoop??
And then being there were so many frauds that JimRob outted I lost track.
He was unsuccessfully recycled, cloned, mutated and fillet'd! :-)
I feel your pain. I started posting in 1998 and changed my "handle" about 4-6 months after first signing up thus losing 406 months of "age" and respect :)
I bet that old thread still exists.
We can validate you. You matter and you count, stop letting the newer old-timers make you feel impotent.
