With the word "doctrine," I think they mean "legalistic bondage."

Or human contrivances, like, "we don't teach no doctrine, just 'Jesus Saves'" J.P. Moreland talks about the "Menace of Mindless Christianity." This sounds a little like that.

Yes. It could be a contrivance or euphemism with no real thought behind it....designed to provide an opening for conversation.

And many of the mindless , that know no doctrine , have to ask themselves and wear shirts and bracelets asking " What would Jesus do"
