New rules for taking communion issued
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | July 17, 2003 | CATHLEEN FALSANI

While the changes might seem minor, the first revisions the Vatican has made to the mass since 1975 will affect every Roman Catholic who walks forward for communion.

Before they take the bread and wine, they'll have to bow, as a sign of reverence for the Eucharist, the bread and wine Roman Catholics believe becomes the actual body and blood of Christ during the mass.

Catholics also must be quieter during the mass, sitting meditatively in silence before it begins, after the homily, and after they receive communion instead of chatting with neighbors, or whispering to the kids.

If she's thinking of jumping to the SSPX, she's lost her mind.

That would, indeed, be a serious mistake, but I don't think she is serious about that. I think she was only expressing her frustration with the disaster that has befallen the Church since Vatican II.

But I could be wrong.

There is a first time for everything, you know. 8o)

We did all of this over a year ago at my church. Maybe that was when the letter first went out.

The evil ones may cause your heart to sink but let that spur you on to persevere.

If you'd actually read Sinkspur's posts, you'd realize that while he holds a few modernist opinions, he wouldn't last ten minutes in an de jure independent AmChurch before he got kicked out for being too "Romish".

It's called a dignity mass, but it is a special mass for the stool-packers. Ever hear of a youth mass? Ever hear of a mariachi mass. Are you going to tell us that they don't exist either?

Come on, man. Be honest and serious.

**Funny you should mention this. Our pastor notified us last week that hewas moving the tabernacle off to the side so that he could better comply with Paragraph 310 of the new GIRM which states that the "best" place for the presiders chair is at the head of the sanctuary**

But the new rules also say that the tabernacle should be at the foot of the cricifix.

Talk to your pastor. It will come!

Ole Thorondir pokes at me, and I poke at him. It's been going on for years.

He could star in the Wizard of Oz. He's the master of straw men.

I DO read them. It's like eating broken glass. A few token pseudo-conservative quips aside, they are filled with modernist Amchurch sentiment, and he once posted that he is "against" the traditional Mass.

You and I just percieve this differently, my friend. but I cannot base my posts on your perceptions, which are the opposite of mine. Nor would I ask you to post based upon my reasons.

Heard of both, been to both. In fact, our Sunday evening Mass is a youth Mass. Packed to the four walls.

Dignity Masses are forbidden in our diocese, so I've never seen or even heard of one.

Thank you, Salvation.

"But the new rules also say that the tabernacle should be at the foot of the cricifix."

Can you tell me where to find this rule?

**That doesn't seem right at all. The EEM's should be in the congregation until the Agnus Dei.**

This is the new rule that is being proposed in this Archdiocese.

he once posted that he is "against" the traditional Mass.

I don't recall ever saying this. I could have, but I now favor a wide application of the Tridentine Mass.

In fact, I favor a full Tridentine Rite for those who wish to attend that Mass.

It's been going on for years.

Try months, not even close to years. Sheesh.

He could star in the Wizard of Oz. He's the master of straw men.

So should I say that you are master of the ad homenim attack, like that one above? I will not say it, because you usually only resort to that when you are (understandably) frustrated. You are just the sort of fellow, who, meaning well, has largely destroyed the Catholic faith in this country and brought untold souls to eternal ruin. Other than that, I'm sure you are a great guy.

"Years." Criminy. Not yet, but we are working on it, aren't we? Sometimes this forum is such a liberal gag that I want to leave forever. But something keeps drawing me back to waste my precious time.

What the heck, I'll just blame it all on you. There, now you are not a liar about the straw man thing. You should thank me for that. Oh, yeah! Did you notice that I complimented you earlier today and agreed with you? I felt like jumping out in front of a truck after that. I did, but since it wasn't moving, I just came back inside and disagreed with you again.

Peace be to you, sinkspur.

Not if you talk to your priest. We need to be proactive and let the priests know we what we do....................and that they cannot pull the wool over our eyes. If that doesn't work then go to the local vicar. Then to the arch/diocese.

Several people have done much in their local churches by standing up and speaking with their pastors. Remember -- pro-active!

You accuse me of "ad hominems," then attribute such power to me that I could single-handedly destroy the Catholic Church in America?

Straw men are your specialty.

BTW, when it comes to gays, you hate the sin AND the sinner, I'm guessing.

Cool! Did everybody have a grand ole jolly time? Lots of laughing, cheering and clapping of hands? Just like Our Lady, Mary Magdalene and St. John at the foot of the cross I bet.

Dignity Masses are forbidden in our diocese, so I've never seen or even heard of one.

Lucky for the people of your diocese. But the special, gentle, priests of Sodom and Gomorrah must be seething there. And seriously, you have never heard of the dignity movement? Then why all your past posts about how wonderful and safe the Sodomite priests are?

Sorry there's not enough Stormfront and Liberty Lobby here for you, but Jim doesn't like that kind of stuff.

I'm surprised you don't feel right at home here, what with all the gay-bashing, which this place is full of.

I don't think Archbishop Vlazny is connected with Oregon Catholic Press. OCP has been here for ages and ages; bishops come and go.

Every church deserves a music director like Desdemona or ninenot, however. We are still growing in this area, and I am hoping that the previous modernist music minister does not come back. (He left during thee initiation of the rules about receiving Communion.)

Then why all your past posts about how wonderful and safe the Sodomite priests are?

Because there are celibate homosexuals in the priesthood, just as there are celibate heterosexuals.

That's a fact.

The Youth Masses are nice, but I don't like going to Mass at 5:00 on Sunday. I prefer Saturday night.
