Pope Again Reaches Out to Orthodox Church
Herald Tribune ^ | June 30, 2003

Posted on 06/30/2003 2:53:51 PM PDT by NYer

VATICAN CITY Pope John Paul II again reached out to the Orthodox Church on Sunday, saying his efforts at reconciliation weren't just "ecclesiastic courtesy" but a sign of his profound desire to unite the Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches.

John Paul made the comments during his regular appearance to pilgrims and tourists in St. Peter's Square. Later Sunday, he welcomed a delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople at a traditional Mass marking the feast day of St. Peter and St. Paul.

"The exchange of delegations between Rome and Constantinople, for the respective patron feasts, goes beyond just an act of ecclesiastic courtesy," the pontiff said. "It reflects the profound and rooted intention to re-establish the full communion between East and West."

John Paul has made improving relations with the Orthodox Church a hallmark of his nearly 25-year papacy, visiting several mostly Orthodox countries and expressing regret for the wrongs committed by the Catholic Church against Orthodox Christians.

Despite his efforts at healing the 1,000-year-old schism, he hasn't yet visited Russia because of objections from the Russian Orthodox Church.

During the Mass on Sunday, 42 new archbishops received the pallium, a band of white wool decorated with black crosses that symbolizes their bond with the Vatican. Two of the archbishops received the pallium in their home parishes; the rest took part in the Mass in St. Peter's Basilica.

Can you ping me after Armageddon? I'm going to go hide in the Taiga.

LOL. I think we'll just come with you, ok? Maybe we can find Agafia and hole up with her to get started.

It's a book. It hasn't been made into a movie yet. I tried to get the guy who filmed "Rural Russia" to make it into a movie but he's operating on a slim budget and I haven't heard from him for awhile.

I did manage to get a copy of Siberiade (film) at buy.com and it was really good. Also I like that movie "Burnt by the Sun". Now that we are talking about burning heretics, maybe I don't like it so well :-).

Sure but Pope Piel retains all rights including the right to recall. You will of course have to knuckle under to my papal wishes and whims if you desire to purchase a Porta-Purger.

OK, as long as we can start a Pepsi bottling franchise. Do you think Putin would let us in or will be have to slip in under cover of darkness via Vladivostok?

Hey Aliska, I will take you there personally and we will have lots and lots of places to stay around Moscow while we collect supplies for our new beginning in Siberia.
Moscow is a second home for me and I can show you all of my favorite spots there. I have so many people for you to meet there too. We will have a terrific time. Let's go now. I miss Russia very much the last few years.

I watched a priest stoke a big bonfire in the rectory yard before the entrance of RCIA candidates into the church for confirmation

No doubt to be ready in case one of them tried to back out at the last minute.

LOL. I don't think he was into burning people, but you never know.

We'll have to take a virtual trip this year as I can't travel just now.

Speaking of family reunions, daughter just dropped by so I'd better go pay some attention to her. Will get back to you later.

"And I would not trust anything the Jews say when whining about the Catholic Church." - Hermann the Cherusker post #601

Kristallnacht!

You are a danger to every non-RC on the face of the earth. There is no difference between you and Mullah Omar. You are so blinded by unscriptural devotion that "love thy neighbor" is twisted into "only if the pope says so". Your heart is hard as an adamant stone.

Sadly, you are not alone on this board with this blind devotion and bloodlust. I acknowledge from the Word of God that in the end the Antichrist's followers will be such as you. You will take the mark of the beast. Gladly. Devoutly.

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. (Rev. 22:11,12)

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Rev. 22:20)

LOL. I think you make much of a fairly benign comment. It's sad that the Catholic Church spawned the likes of you.

There is a looming groundswell of fanaticism in certain quarters, and that should make everyone afraid

Perhaps you can share more about this with me by freepmail at your convenience? Thanks.

Not to be concerned. I know a lot about the RCC and it's "enlightened" history.

Too bad they take license at certain scriptures to inflict totally non-christian acts upon the innocent and unsuspecting. Love thy neighbor .... hmmmmm, well, maybe(if it can be backed up by the magisterium). Love thy enemy and pray for those that despitefully use you ... NO WAY. Call the civil authorities and demand a burning! WE HAVE THE KEYS TO THE KINGDOM AND WE SAY BOW DOWN TO THE POPE OR DIE YOU HERETICS!

Like I said earlier, it's gonna happen. I just pray the Lord comes to get His bride soon. Woe unto the inhabitants of the earth.
