My point was only that I think your position today, no matter how justified, is anachronistic when applied to the first century. I would much rather learn at the feet of those who knew Jesus than I would from a book.
Even in the first generation, your suspicion of the humans in the Church comes out.
I'm not saying you are right or wrong, just noting how deeply your attachment to the written word over any Church is. You are, at least utterly consistent
Maybe because men, even eyewitnesses are yet only men and not all are to be trusted.
2 Corinthians 11:
[12] And what I do I will continue to do, in order to undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we do.
[13] For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.
[14] And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Acts 17:
[2] And Paul went in, as was his custom, and for three weeks he argued with them from the scriptures,
. . .
[11] Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessaloni'ca, for they received the word with all eagerness, examining the scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Because they were not. As you know, from the earliest times the Church has venerated the relics of the saints. St. Peter's body is under his Basilica in Rome, St. James is at Compostella in Spain, etc.
Isn't the skull of Peter in Cathedral of St. John Lateran? How many skulls does he have?

Maybe because men, even eyewitnesses are yet only men and not all are to be trusted. Then I guess we're screwed cause these are the same men who canonized and wrote the NT Scriptures. If you can't trust them, then you can't trust them.
The Bible came out of the Church, not the other way around.

These are the men you are speaking of?
2 Corinthians 11:

No my friend you are screwed if you trust the word of men without testing them from Scripture.
Acts 17:
11] Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessaloni'ca, for they received the word with all eagerness, examining the scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
On the other hand, if they claim "authority" . . . . . ?

No my friend you are screwed if you trust the word of men without testing them from Scripture. As usual, you miss the point. We have no way of knowing that Scripture is what it purports to be except by the testimony of the Church. That's the fatal flaw in Sola thinking. Everyone has to rely on men.

Yes, ... but, as regards the scriptures, the church did the right thing and placed its faith in the men at the beginning of the telephone line ... those who actually physically heard the words of JESUS ... those, to whom JESUS promised ... John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
To rely upon sola scriptura is, thus, to put one's full trust only in these few men, who JESUS Himself screened and tutored and who the Holy Spirit taught and inspired to write.

It could be. I don't know. The bones of his body (legs, arms, etc.) are directly under the high altar of St. Peter's basilica.

Thanks patrick...I'll check them out.
