The Heart of an Apostle
If you want to make converts, begin by converting your own heart

So you think that evangelizing your family and friends, coworkers and neighbors is an impossible dream? Think again. God wants to work through you, regardless of your circumstances in your office, your home, your social circles, your parish to search out and rescue those who have drifted or are starting to drift away from the Faith. All He needs to work with is a willing heart. Here are a few lessons from the life of St. Francis de Sales about how God can make you His coworker in the vast drama of salvation.

Welcome Sir! The fame of your work proceeds you here!
To: Patrick Madrid; Polycarp
Hello! I shall make the assumption that you
are, in fact, the Catholic author Patrick Madrid, and not someone using his name. I read your book
Surprised by Truth several years ago. Welcome to Free Republic and the Religion Forum! I'm sure you will find the environment here
interesting and
invigorating. ;o)
Polycarp, can you fire up your ping list?

I'd be remiss in not inviting you to ping your lists as well.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Good to be here.
(And please forgive the typo in the headline. I wasn't sure how to do a line break after "Apostle," so the subtitle runs on accidentally.)
To: malakhi; George W. Bush
You should ping George W. Bush as well. LOL

What? No ping to the Neverending Story so we can hash over all the same arguements for the umpteenth time? ;o)

And please forgive the typo in the headline. I wasn't sure how to do a line break after "Apostle," so the subtitle runs on accidentally. Line breaks and other HTML tags do not work in article headers. You can use most HTML tags in replies, though. Or, you can use no tags and let the software auto-format your paragraphs.

Oh, by the way, I enjoyed your conversation with Marcus Grodi on the Mary Foundation tape, "The Truth About Mary." Every Catholic should listen to this!

Maybe it would be helpful for folks new to the religion forum if someone, maybe you, could supply them with a stat sheet on all the players. You know, affiliation, former screen names (for historical threads) humor quotient, etc. I have a hard time keeping everyone straight sometimes.
Just a thought...
To: conservonator
That would be a great help to newcomers, such as myself.

Re: etiquette here
What's the popular wisdom on this: Is it better to post an entire article in the FR post box or is it better to give a paragraph and include a link to the original page?

Is it better to post an entire article in the FR post box or is it better to give a paragraph and include a link to the original page? Post the entire article.
This is true for several reasons, the most practical being that an article whihc attracts serious interest can lead to too much demand for a particular site. This site is built for large numbers.
Also, the political objects of this site are (in part) to analyze the media. We have, numerous times, caught the wire services or papers with ongoing "changes" to posted articles. Without the original text here, it all disappears down the memory hole.
Also, many articles are posted on sites as a "daily" article, then the article is archived to a different address. in other words, a link today to one article is either defunct or points to another article the next day.
Lastly, due to a law suit, excerpting is required for any material that originates with the Washington Post or LA Times or their writers.

Dear Patrick,
Posters prefer if the entire article is posted (as long as it isn't too long). Excerpting was necessitated by the owner's legal troubles with the Washington Post, the LA Times, and some other folks.
Since you're likely to be posting articles from your own magazine, I suppose there won't be any copyright issues. ;-)
Welcome.

It depends. If the article is really long, it is better to excerpt it. Also, if the article is from the Washington Post or any of its sister papers, one has to excerpt it, keeping it to 100 words or less. This is the terms of a settlement between FR and WP.

Great. Thanks for the clarification. I'll post the whole thing, then (ditto for any future articles).
