Where Have All the FR Protestants Gone? [A Month Later]

Thread from last month...

Where Have All the FR Protestants Gone?
drstevej

Posted on 04/08/2003 12:29 PM CDT by drstevej

OBSERVATIONS:

[1] There seems to be a significantly reduced number of Protestant Threads (KJV Only being the exception for sure) in the FR Religion Forum.

[2] There seems to be a reduced number of FR Protestant posts in the Religion Forum.

This thread is a place to discuss these observations.

------------

Now the transformation to a Catholic Religion Forum is almost complete. Must be a Marian miracle or an answer to Jim Robinson's prayer, "Can't we all just get along?" Now all the dissent is within the RC fold ... NO Mass vs. Tridentine Mass. Boredom has descended, the moderators are free to nap without fear of an **** awakening them.

Could someone arrange for a funeral mass? (a clown mass in this case might be in order).

**Quantity primarily. Review the past few weeks at eh threads and see how few non_RC threads there are and how few posts these receive.**

You do have a point here. What happened to the Mormon threads? For awhile there were a lot of them.

You are right, I have no vitriol toward RCs here and am convinced we need to be able to have some humor amid serious discussion.

One observation: it is in precisely some of the most agressive threads, amid strident disagreement, that I have learned the most. The Rodney King moderators have produced a boring forum here if late.

**By the way, are you aware that in Catholic prophecy, the next Pope is to become known as the "Black Pope"?**

Are you talking about End Times phrophecies here, where the Pope succumbs to the Antichrist?

I figured it was pretty much a catholic conservative website. I guess it is, but they don't flaunt it on the political forum.

I tend to agree. :-)

***You're wanting me to pop in and liven them up? LOL***

Sure, why not? At this point we could use Polycarp's infamous cereal box gif. (BTW, another ludicrous example of censorship here on FR).

Love, being eternal, is patient. Men, living in time, are not. Thus the problem.

Exactly, but it used to be a pretty varied group of people discussing theological differences in a free speech alley atmosphere.

Could you explain to me what an "integrist" is? I've seen the term before, I'm not sure what they believe.

I wouldn't know, but I kind of doubt it. When I first heard about it, I think I always heard FR had a catholic conservative focus.

***What happened to the Mormon threads?***

A post from the past holds the clue... (FR5th Ammendment = Mormon)

Testimony:

Hi, my name is drstevej, and I am a meteorologist. (Hi, drstevej!)

There was a time when I openly discussed [FR 5th Amendment]ism on FREE Republic. However, buttons were pushed and things came to a "head" resulting in my banishment to FR purgatory.

A second stay in the timeout chair came as a result of my posting a "You Might be in a Cult if..." list to my personal page. Alas, I was been diagnosed as a habitual [FR 5th Amendment] abuser by the mods in the white coats.

As a twice exiled [FR 5th Amendment] abuser, I was released upon making an agreement with the "Higher Power" (Also called JR, although I am not sure what the initials "JR" stand for) to reform my ways.

My recovery I attribute to a new found appreciation for the weather. I always knew the weather was around, but now I depended upon it for my very survival. When a temptation came to discuss [FR 5th Amendment]s, I found that re-focusing on the weather spared me from certain banishment by the "Higher Power."

Indeed, along the way I found other disciples who had learned the Wisdom of Weather (WOW for short). Life was getting better. But, as brother FRM Murphy and brother FRM Rev911 can attest, even the weather can offend the Higher Power when we post doppler radar pictures of Utah.

Now my profile page timidly displays the FRW seal of approval. I just hope that some day I am strong enough to display it without a disclaimer, as some of my WOW brethren have the courage to do.

-drstevej FRM (#0001)

BTW,
I am working on a new list (suggestions are welcomed)

"You Might be Suspended by the Higher Power if..."

You're not alone.

However, my own studies of how the Novus Ordo was put together leads me to the conclusion that there is a need for reform in many of the texts that were RADICALLY changed from what the traditional liturgies theologically intended to impart. Over the next month I will post a lengthy treatise from the latest "Thomist" quarterly that points out some of the abuses of modernist thought that infiltrated the Novus Ordo.

I love the N.O. but it does need some reform, IMO! :^)

schismatics, integrists, ultra-traditionalists, and even the odd sedevacantist.

I don't consider myself any of the above, even if I do lean more towards traditionalism than you do. Then again, I don't post all that much in the religion threads. :-)

I don't honestly know if I prefer the Tridentine Rite, as I have never attended a Tridentine Mass. If one were offered in my area, I'd attend, and see if it is preferable.

I think the Novus Ordo is not necessarily the problem with the Church today; it's really abuses of the Novus Ordo (which could theoretically occur with the Tridentine as well) that are the problem. I can see good things about both rites.

As far as why there's so much Catholic stuff posted: well...it is the biggest Church in the world, and there's been a lot of news about it lately.

Did you forget me.

I didn't forget you.

There is a group on the forum I call the foundation. That is, you stay above the NO-vs-Tridentine fray for the most part and focus on the most important aspects of our faith: doctrine, Mass Readings, postings from the Catechism, and updates from the Vatican on the Pope's itinerary and speeches.

That group includes you, sandyeggo, NYer, american colleen, and, on occasion, ninenot, and others whose names don't jump out at me right now.

On occasion, I post an article or column from THE NATIONAL CATHOLIC REPORTER. Now, the Reporter is one end of the spectrum, and the Wanderer is on the other. The articles I post are innocuous, usually John Allen's commentary from Rome and one or two others that would seem to be of interest.

What do I get? Two or three responses (even though more Vatican officials talk to him than to any other American journalist stationed in Rome and he breaks some important stories as well), or, more likely, I'm questioned on why I would dare post something from the NCR on this hallowed forum.

I'm a mainstream Catholic. My parish follows the GIRM, we don't "experiment" with the liturgy, and I happen to like the Novus Ordo.

Sometimes I feel as out of place here as if I were posting on DU.
