Where Have All the FR Protestants Gone?
drstevej

Posted on 04/08/2003 10:29:25 AM PDT by drstevej

OBSERVATIONS:

[1] There seems to be a significantly reduced number of Protestant Threads (KJV Only being the exception for sure) in the FR Religion Forum.

[2] There seems to be a reduced number of FR Protestant posts in the Religion Forum.

This thread is a place to discuss these observations.

the larger point is not mormonism - I used to be your biggest defender here on the threads - ask resty and UG - they both complimented me as recently as two months ago -

The larger point is censorship of truthful articles, posts and doctrinal discussions - Thats what my obsession is. That the topic is mormonism has little to do with it. But hey, it makes for good victimhood, so keep it up.

It just gets nauseating after awhile. If you'd at least discuss what YOU believe among yourselves, there'd be some residual point

...and you are drawn to those threads why ? - largely because you feel a sick need to shout anyone down that disagrees with you - all your posts regardless of the subject show the same contentiousness.

Some fiber might help

...maybe some dried apricots

(UG, Im in respect of your request not to ping you, but I had mentioned your name and thought it a courtesy)

My reasons for pointing out the odiousness of "religion bashing" should be evident.

And FWIW, I decry "religion bashing" of all kinds, and have shown up on the anti-Catholic AND anti-Muslim threads to say the same thing.

Yes, it does get more personal when it is my own beloved faith that you people lie about, but there is a principle involved here.

You are welcome to tell me you don't believe what I do. But you don't leave it at that. That's what is disgusting to me.

You're proving my point that there is something going on with Protestants on a deep-down level that they cannot discuss religion without bashing Catholics. If the Catholic Church didn't exist, would you have anything to talk about?

Bashing Protestants in the name of "let's stop the Protestants from bashing". How droll.

The only time people like you are "attacked" is when you instigate it. I will not stand by and see my religion slandered and lied about.

You have a limited right of free speech, but when you lie and slander, be prepared for return fire.

I challenge you post where I have attacked anyone on these forums.

Saying that "Southern Baptists and Assembly of God members whom I have known tend to be rather shallow" is hardly bashing of religion.

Sorry, under the new rules of engagement, if I'm offended, then it's religious persecution. Says so right here on this thread.

You must have me confused with someone else. Please find where I've been "bashing" Mormonism.

You yourself told me last week that my belief that the Baptism of the dead is heresy is indeed not "bashing."

Because the forum was never intended to be a religious debate.

You may have been able to make that case when we were all in one forum. However, now there is a FReeRepublic Religion Forum. That leads me to assume that religious debate is not only tolerated, but encouraged.

At least it used to lead me to assume that.

If I were doing what you do, I would find lots of juicy tidbits about Southern Baptist leaders who have offended God and man with their behavior. In fact, I'd toss in mere allegations under the assumption that they must be true.

I would harp on the fact that Jim Bakker was Assembly of God, and "prove" that AoG must be a "false cult" because of what we "know" about him. In fact, I'd make up a bunch of stuff about other AoG, and throw that into the kitty.

Until and unless I stoop so low as to do those things, you have no complaint.

FR was established as a politics forum, not a religious debate forum.

That may have been true at the beginning, but FR has evolved to include Religious debate through the creation of a Religion forum.

And yet, here we sit in the "Religion Forum."

Ask Mr. Robinson if this is true. You might be surprised to find you are wrong.

I never see you discuss anything else. I never see you on other threads.

Then you aren't looking in the right places. The only reason some of us have focused our attention on this issue is the fact that there has been significant pro-LDS bias exhibited here in the last few weeks.

Some of us didn't bother with this issue at all until our brothers and sisters in Christ started getting banned for having the courage and convictions to confront the fallacies of your religion.

except when it comes to our Jewish friends

youre such a liar

but there is a principle involved here.

Yes, we'll call it the "Illbay principle"

Thats when people post pro-apologetic information regarding thier own faith, posters respond with diverging views and opinions, and you shout them down and cry to the mods

You are welcome to tell me you don't believe what I do. But you don't leave it at that. That's what is disgusting to me.

As far as I understand, in the context of the conservative movement (and religion plays a huge part of that) I can post my opinions, I can post historical information, or doctrinal flaws, or theological vacancies in any faith as long as it is not not in a bashing manner

get used to that free discourse -

JR has told us not to bash - he didnt say stop discussing it

...still waiting for you to give us examples

....and stay away from those psyllium powders for your problem... they make you gassy

I never see you discuss anything else. I never see you on other threads. The obsession is sick....the fact is that there is a list of about twenty people just like you. Twenty people out of over a hundred thousand, who can't talk about anything else, and who make themselves "experts" of something that has no point.

I suppose I'm one of the twenty that make up la petit cabal who "can't talk about anything else"? I'm sorry - maybe you haven't seen my profile page?
