Lent is a season of intense prayer, fasting and concern for those in need. It offers all Christians an opportunity to prepare for Easter by serious discernment about their lives, with particular attention to the word of God which enlightens the daily journey of all who believe.

Lent is an opportunity for reflection and self discipline. For those who have cable, Lent is an excellent time to turn off ESPN and turn on EWTN. For everyone with access to the internet, EWTN WENT LENT (sorry).

Thank you for the wonderful message from His Holiness!

I am having a baby sometime in April, before Easter (hopefully). I normally fast by giving up all alcohol and meat during the Lenten season; I've already given up alcohol (obviously!), and don't feel right giving up meat while pregnant.

I'm going to use Lent to teach my older kids to pray 1 decade of the Rosary at bedtime; any other suggestions? Time is always a factor, which I know it shouldn't be but with 3+ kids, a full-time job, cleaning, helping with homework, and cooking I'm kind of exhausted by the end of the day. I was going to attempt a daily Rosary (5 decades), but I fear I wouldn't be able to live up to the commitment and I always feel doubly bad when I don't meet my Lenten commitment.

Thank you, and God bless!
