Sorry if this was already posted. I did a search on "Kresta" and didn't find anything.Update from the HMS Blog
Al does indeed have Necrotizing Fasciitis ("flesh eating disease"). The disease is a Strep A infection (the same kind that causes sore throat) that enters a small cut or wound, infecting-and killing-- the tissue and organs beneath the skin.
He is responding to treatment; the amputation of a leg below the knee and antibiotics. HOWEVER, the next 72 hours are critical. This is when he needs your prayers THE MOST.

My heartfelt prayers for this brother in Christ.
May the True Body and Blood of our Lord fill his body and cleanse it of this deadly bacteria. Please let the shock of losing a limb be a gracefilled experience and not cause the suffering and shock that such a loss sometimes brings about.
Take him from this perilous ledge on which he hangs. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER BUMP
He's been hosting a radio show there since the 80's. He had the show as a protestant minister, and just kept going when he converted.

Sorry to hear that this devoted son of Mary is suffering so much. Dear God, please bathe Al in the Precious Blood of your Son, and heal Al from head to toe. Have mercy on Al and his family.

Kevorkian's nemesis received into Catholic Church
Author: COL Date: 04/01/98 By Jay McNally
Richard Thompson, the only politician in Michigan who made a consistent effort to shut down "Dr. Death," was received into the Catholic Church March 24.
Thompson, 60, surrounded by family and friends, received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion from celebrated theologian and author, Fr. John Hardon, SJ, at Assumption Grotto Church in Detroit....
"I read Surprised by Truth, and read Al Kresta's conversion story. I had met Al on two other occasions, when I had been on his WMUZ radio talk show twice. I had not known of Al's history and his own conversion story," Thompson said. (Kresta is executive editor of Credo, an independent Catholic newspaper in Ann Arbor. Thompson met with Kresta last fall.) "I wanted to get over the emotional hurdles. Al gave me a bunch of tapes. He also sent me the book Crossing the Tiber, by Steve Ray, which was very helpful."

Al Kresta is a broadcaster and journalist who draws upon his unique faith background to create what is perhaps the most fascinating - and most spiritually constructive - talk show on radio today.
A 1976 honors graduate of Michigan State University who has spent time in graduates studies in theology, Al became well known in the Detroit area for his talk show, "Talk from the Heart," one of the top-rated Christian talk shows during the 1980s and 90s. When he began the program, Al was a Protestant pastor. The questions forced upon him as pastor, however, led him to return to the Catholic Church. His profound personal conversion to Christ and return to the Catholic Church is told in the best-selling anthology Surprised By Truth. Al continued with "Talk from the Heart" and was still warmly received by his largely Protestant audience.
Despite this success, Al took on a pioneering role when Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan recruited him to launch the media apostolate, Ave Maria Communications. Ave Maria Communications presently includes Credo, Michigan's largest weekly religious publication and recipient of 18 merit awards from the Catholic Press Association, Ave Maria Radio Network which produces Kresta in the Afternoon, a daily three hour talk show syndicated throughout the United States and operates the radio stations WDEO (Detroit and Ann Arbor) and WMAX (Saginaw, Bay City and Midland).
Al has applied his broad theological understanding, his dazzling conversational skills, and his warm, "everyman" personality to explaining the truths of Catholic faith. Kresta in the Afternoon takes on all comers. Over the years, he's engaged in vigorous discussions or debates with partners as varied as: Jesse Jackson, William Bennett, Alan Keyes, Gloria Steinam, Gary Bauer, Scott Hahn, Jack Kevorkian, Donna Shalala, Judge Robert Bork, Clarence Page, Jerry Falwell, Steve Allen, Pat Buchanan, Bowie Kuhn, Mrs. Anwar Sadat, Martin Luther King III, Cal Thomas, Fr. Richard John Neuhaus, John Cardinal O'Connor, Chuck Colson and Allan Dershowitz.
Al has served on the Board of Reconciliation Ministries which provides counseling and support for homosexuals and other Christians with sexual disorders but who want to live chastely in accord with the teaching of Scripture.
Al is a contributor to Shaken by Scandals: Catholics Speak Out on Priests' Sexual Abuse. He is also the author of Why Do Catholics Genuflect? and Answers to Other Puzzling Questions About the Catholic Faith published by Servant Books. Al and his wife, Sally, have been married for 25 years and have been blessed with 5 children.
