Did you post this twice? I responded to the thread in the Breaking News forum, and now it's over here as well. I thought it got moved to Religion, but my response is over there, but not here. Well, here's what I had to say in the other forum:

Even though I'd answer "Yes" to all your questions, I don't think I'll be attending an Anglican Usage service anytime soon. Now that the true Latin Mass is again available to all Catholics, why would anyone attend some other service?

The Anglican Usage sounds like the worst of all worlds. It combines the rite of Thomas Cranmer with elements of the Novus Ordo. It's nice that all of the external elements of reverence are maintained, but it's not the real Mass. It's a synthesized hybrid that has never really existed historically.

English Catholics should attend the Mass that the English martyrs died to preserve: the Latin Mass of all ages.

I cannot imagine Newman, Manning or Evelyn Waugh attending an Anglican Usage service. When they became Catholic, they wanted to be 100% Catholic. Waugh was devastated by the changes at Vatican II.

I personally know other converts from the Episcopalian church who feel the same way, "Why did I convert to the Catholic religion only to find it imitating all the worst aspects of the denomination I left behind?"

They started the St. Gregory's Society in New Haven, CT, one of the first groups to take advantage of the 1988 indult. They produce beautiful tapes and CDs of the traditional Latin Mass. They wouldn't want to attend a hybrid Anglican/Novus Ordo service.

Your condescension astounds.

The Novus Ordo is the normative Mass, and has been since 1969. The Indult is provided where the local bishop determines there is a demand.

I have to laugh at you guys who think there is some screaming chorus begging for the Tridentine Mass.

THERE IS NOT! Most Catholics, overwhelmingly, like the Novus Ordo and wouldn't attend a Latin Mass on a bet.

I am in favor of a generous Indult, but not a universal one, as the Novus Ordo should remain normative and not "optional."

I see you are new to FR. Welcome. Please note my above post. The Archbishop pulled our indult for the Tridentine Mass. Of the four Masses my Priest does on Sunday at our AU Parish, the Tridentine is no longer one of them. We now have 3 Anglican Use Masses, and the NO in Latin.

I am a great champion of the Anglican Use parishes. Though they are few, what they offer is a desperately needed influence that runs contrary to the liturgical terrorists that beset the Latin rite parishes. The AU Canon of the Mass is Miles Coverdale's translation of the Canon of the Mass as it was celebrated in Salisbury Cathedral (the ancient Sarum Use). There really is precious little of Mr. Cranmer, and there is a great deal of the treasures of the Catholic faith. I have found such reverence and faithfulness among the AU parishes and parishioners that it has brought tears of joy to my eyes. And their Liturgy shows that there really is a beautiful way to use the English language and it underlines just how poor the ICEL translations are. I can give a ringing endorsement for my experiences at St. Athanasius in Boston and Our Lady of Walsingham in Houston. And there is no doubt that Fr. Phillips at Our Lady of the Atonement in San Antonio is one of the truly great priests of the Church in America.
