This truly a blessing! St. Francis is considered a universal saint, honored by many christian religions. I was fortunate to visit Assisi before the earthquake. It consoles me no end to know that these magnificent frescoes, depicting events in the life of St. Francis, have now been restored for future generations to enjoy.

The earthquake shattered some of the church's ancient fresco paintings into tens of thousands of tiny fragments.

New computer techniques have been used to solve what amounted to a huge jigsaw puzzle - the piecing together of hundreds of boxes of tiny plaster fragments carefully salvaged from the debris inside the basilica.

Wow! Hopefully, I can visit Assisi before another earthquake hits.
