WAY OF THE CROSS
July 27, 2002

Posted on 07/27/2002 6:20:00 AM PDT by NYer

Fri Jul 26,10:51 PM ET

Actor Robert Legere, of St.Louis-de-Kent, New Brunswick, portraying Jesus Christ, reenacts the crucifixion as part of the World Youth Day celebrations, in Toronto, Ont. on Friday July 26, 2002.

An actor playing Jesus depicts the tortured stages of Christ's passage to the cross. He too is condemned to death, takes up his cross, falls under its weight and ultimately is hoisted above the crowd on that same crude frame.

Realism, said Ms. Parsons, is the objective. "It's an attempt to bring home the scarifices Jesus made for us."

I have a few places I want to go.

Believe it or not, #1 is Scotland. Don't ask me why, but I do.

#2 is to retrace Paul's 3rd Missionary journey and his imprisonment journey to Rome.

#3 is Montana. (Another one of those don't ask me whys.)'

#4 is Alaska.

Order in Liklihood of success is: #3, #1, #4, #2.

Jesus Falls the First Time Under the Cross

My Beloved Jesus, it is not the weight of the cross, but of my sins, which has made Thee suffer so much pain. Ah, by the merits of this first fall, deliver me from the misfortune of falling into mortal sin. I love Thee, O my Jesus, with my whole heart; I repent of having offended thee. Never permit me to offend Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee always; and then do with me what Thou wilt.

Thank you for posting the Stations. It just seemed to follow naturally to post the beautiful Way of the Cross by St. Alphonsus Liguri. Probably not too many people know these anymore. We never say them at my Church.

Jesus Meets His Mother

My Most loving Jesus, by the sorrow Thou didst experience in this meeting, grant me the grace of a truly devoted love for Thy most holy Mother. And Thou my Queen, who wast overwhelmed with sorrow, obtain for me by Thy intercession a continual and tender remembrance of the Passion of Thy Son. I love Thee, Jesus my Love; I repent of ever having offended Thee. Never permit me to offend Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee always; and then do with me what Thou wilt.

We never say them at my Church.

We do them every Friday evening during Lent with a different group leading them. Teens, bereaved, Knights of Columbus, Happy Hearts - senior, etc.

It is quite moving.

And we can always say them by ourselves.

Simon of Cyrene Takes Up the Cross for Christ

My most sweet Jesus, I will not refuse the cross, as the Cyrenean did; I accept it, I embrace it. I accept in particular the death Thou hast destined for me, with all the pains that may accompany it; I unite it to Thy death, I offer it to Thee. Thou hast died for love of me; I will die for love of thee, and to please thee. Help me by thy grace. I love Thee, Jesus my Love; I repent of having offended Thee. Never permit me to offend Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee; and then do with me what Thou wilt.

how bloody and bowed He really was...for us...and reminded me once again the incredible price He paid for my sin.

And likewise, my sin.

Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus

My Most beloved Jesus, Thy Face was beautiful before, but in this journey it has lost all its beauty, and wounds and blood have disfigured it. Alas, my soul also was once beautiful, when it received Thy grace in Baptism: but I have disfigured it since by my sins; Thou alone, my Redeemer, canst restore it to its former beauty. Do this by Thy Passion; and then do with me what Thou wilt.

Jesus Falls a Second Time

Do we have the internal perseverance modeled by Jesus to get up again and again in our daily life, or do we let things keep us down (depression? (Sorry the depression comment is only my opinion.

It was just that the pics at the top of this thread made me think of how bloody and bowed He really was...for us...and reminded me once again the incredible price He paid for my sin.

For God so loved the world...
