This statement sent up red flags when I first read the article. Anyone in this forum familiar with Fr. Sudac?

I wonder if that is a translation error? If not it reminds me of something Luther said in his "table talk".

Father Gio translated with matching fervor, a mighty, rising call and response. "Don't look into spiritism! Don't look into Santería! Don't be afraid of sin! There is no sin! Jesus Christ died to banish sin from this world! Open yourself! Make room in your heart. Then he will come in there in those places. He will come real fast!"

Here's the complete quote. It bothers me, a lot. Jesus died to save us from our sins. He (Jesus) told us (paraphrased) to fear not those who can destroy the body, but rather him who can destroy both body and soul in Hell. That seems somewhat at odds with part of this fellow's message.

Yeah, that's a red flag statement. However, given that Father Sudac's words were translated, and then run through the editorial wringer at New York Magazine, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
