The LDS still allows plural marriage in countries where it is legal correct?

No, this is not correct. Polygamy anywhere is not allowed by the LDS church. Period.

Since you are from that area, as it also seem Don Ozark, he might be a bit more sensitive about it?

That is not what I was told on a Mormon forum..I was told the missionaries do not teach against multiple marriages and the church allows membership of men with many wives..

The "excerpts" surely sounds pragmatic compared to the language of D&C 132. What happened to "we must obey God rather than men?"

I believe in obeying the laws of the land except when they require me to violate a command of God. Under such circumstances I am to disobey the law and accept the consequences. The NT apostles went to prison rather than stop proclaiming Christ. Daniel refused to dishonor God via idolatry or even eating the king's food.

Do you not see pragmatism at work here? Does this explanation not trouble you?

Quite possible. Apparently I misunderstood some of his statements.

I have met quite a number of Mormons who have a mythology that greatly exaggerates the number of their people killed by mobs and militia in MO and IL, etc. The figure "thousands" is routinely used, and I've even heard "tens of thousands."

I'm still interested in getting some semi-accurate numbers, but it seems nobody else is.

The quote was not mine. It was made by someone I think who identifies himself with the COJCLDS but who finds D&C 132 and Declaration 1 incompatible.

No hard feelings and by all means stick to whomever / whatever you wish.

Well, whomever was saying that on a Mormon Forum and purporting themselves to actually be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was lying, plain and simple. Any member of the LDS church who is mixed up in polygamy is excommunicated. Period.

***In other words it is written by someone that would like a few more wives***

D&C 132 I take it is your reference... It does seem to be written by someone who wanted a rationale to explain to wife #1 why they might need a few more bedrooms. I wonder what Emma would have thought about Woodruff's later reversal???

President Wilford Woodruff says in the Official Declaration that the Lord revealed to him what would happen if the practice of polygamy was continued. President Woodruff said he was willing to do whatever he was commanded to do, that he and the leaders of the LDS church would fight to the death to defend polygamy. But he was told no, and then shown exactly what would happen if the practice of polygamy was continued.

I've heard many theories as to why the Lord revealed the doctrine of plural marriage. I do know that polygamy was practiced with the blessing of God at various times during the Old Testament, it was condemned at other times in the OT. Same thing in the Book of Mormon.

Polygamy in LDS theology (pre-mortal and post-mortal) seems foundational. Heavenly Father is a Polygamist. Adam came to earth as a polygamist. Future planets will exhibit polygamy. Am I wrong on this description?

I do know that LDS men can be sealed (married) to more than one wife. For example, his first wife dies, and he marries again, he is sealed (married) to the second wife as well, if they are married in the temple. It is NOT a requirement to be in the Celestial kingdom though. I do not know where you are getting the information that Adam came to earth as a polygamist, sorry that is a new one on me.

To which barns are you referring, Elsie? The Lord's meeting houses and temples, perhaps?

I wonder if Elmer approves of your lack of civility, which seems to serve as the glue for your quite fragmented understanding of things sacred.

Perhaps your ability to generate heaps of bullsh*t after grazing on that which you cannot digest is something you have in common and enables you to stick together while behaving as though you were born in a barn.

In any event, don't have a cow....

It was an absolute commandment; or it was Bullsugar, thought up by a horny guy to promote his fun and games. You can't have it both ways.

Sure you can!

Just make sure you cast your scorn on those who would have the temerity to point it out to you!

Say, you're starting to sound AWFULLY "Mormonish"!

That scares me. What does an "awful" Mormon sound like?

Actually, the Mormon missionaries knocked on my door once, but I was reluctant to let them in. Seemed like nice guys though.

I enjoy mentally sparring with people of all religions. I try to find gems of truth amid all the inconsistencies.
