This has been running through my mind for the last couple of days.
Will you join with me to say a Rosary each day this week and throughout the USCCB conference in Texas that The Holy Spirit will provide guidance and courage for the Bishops during this difficult time?
Here is a prayer from another thread. Please feel free to post prayers, thoughts, about the USCCB meeting.
From another thread:
"In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit...
"Immaculate Mary, most Holy Mother of God and of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we the people of the United States of America at this historic moment stand before you in a humbled condition of love, loyalty, affection, and thankfulness. To your Immaculate Heart we recommit and dedicate ourselves throughout the entire American nation.
To your Son Jesus Christ we pledge to serve His teaching, His church, and to work for His kingdom on earth.
O Mary, to you do we flee for protection. Surround the American family with your maternal care; enfold us in your arms. Give to this American land, built on the blood and tears of so many faithful forebears, a peaceful and praiseworthy existence in truth, love, justice, and freedom.
O Mary, we submit to you as the Patroness of our beloved country. O Mary, Help of Christians, enfold the Holy Father and the Catholic Church within your protective cloak; be our shield in the days ahead. Give to the Church true holiness and freedom. Obtain for our leaders holy zeal, the ability to face the truth, and the courage to correct all abuses. Stop the flood of atheism, greed, heresy, impurity, lukewarmness, materialism, and selfishness that threaten our nation. Show to those who have strayed from the Church the way to Our Lord Jesus Christ. Mother of God, accept our personal consecration to you and, through you, bind us forever to the Holy Trinity. Gather us all into your Immaculate Heart and unite us forever with Jesus. O Mary, we love you. Amen."

Whenever I say
Hail Mary
The court of Heaven rejoices
And the earth
Is lost in wonderment.
And I despise the world
And my heart is brim-full
Of the love of God
When I say
Hail Mary;
All my fears
Wilt and die
And my passions are quelled
If I say
Hail Mary;
Devotion grows
Within me
And sorrow for sin
Awakens
When I say
Hail Mary.
Hope is made strong
In my breast
And the dew of consolation
Falls on my soul
More and more-
Because I say
Hail Mary.
And my spirit
Rejoices
And sorrow fades away
When I say
Hail Mary...
Count me in.

An Invitation to Prayer
From June 13-15, 2002, the Bishops of the United States of America will be gathering in Dallas, Texas for three days or prayer and deliberation in order to assure the safety of children, address the problem of clergy sexual abuse, and formulate concrete initiatives for the future.
During the forty-six hours the Bishops will be meeting in Dallas, you are invited to pray for victims of clergy sexual abuse, and for the Bishops, that God might send his Holy Spirit to grant them the wisdom and courage to do his holy will at this critical moment in the life of the Church.
Parish communities, individuals and groups of the faithful may gather together to pray in the course of these days in many different ways.
- During the Bishops' meeting, Bishops, victims of sexual abuse, and others will spend forty eight hours in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, asking the Lord Jesus to bring healing and peace to victims and to be present to our Bishops. Parishes, religious communities, and other groups might well conduct continuous adoration of the Blessed Sacrament during this same time, beginning with a Mass designed to coincide with the Opening Mass for the Bishops' Meeting at 7:00am on Thursday, June 13th and concluding forty eight hours later with a Mass on Saturday morning at 7:00am. The booklet of scriptures, prayers and meditations which will be used during this Eucharistic Adoration at the Bishops' meeting is available for free download on this website and may be reproduced free of charge (Vigil Prayers) (in .pdf format). (Download Acrobat Reader).
- During the Bishops' meeting, parishes, religious communities, and other groups of the faithful might gather for celebrations of the Liturgy of the Hours at the same hours observed by the Bishops. The texts for the Masses on Thursday morning, Friday evening, and Saturday morning are available on this website. The texts of Morning Prayer and Mid-Afternoon Prayer for these days as they will be prayed by the Bishops is also available.
- Other Prayers and Devotions are particularly appropriate during these days. Individuals might pray one of the prayers in the Vigil booklet, offer a rosary each day for the intentions of the Church, or spend time in quirt prayer before the Blessed Sacrament to the extent their schedule allows.
Many ask the question, "What can I do to help?" The only way any of us can discern an answer to that question is by seeking the presence of Christ, "the way, the truth, and the life." Many things seems impossible for us. But with God, all things are possible.

Did you write that poem, Cap'n? It is very beautiful. Truly very beautiful. It is just what I was looking for, for a card we're printing for my father's funeral. May I make use of it?

Opening Prayer
Almighty and most gentle God, who from a rock made flow

noon Renewal of Committment to Priestly Service
BISHOP GREGORY:
My brothers, over these past few days we have sought ways to renew our faithfulness to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. In a spirit of repentance for our sins and with trust that God will give us the grace to more closely follow the model of Christ the Good Shepherd, let us conclude our meeting by renewing our commitment to priestly service. On the day of our ordination as priests we were called to conform ourselves to the cross of Christ. May these days be the beginning of a new dawn of priestly holiness in our country and in our world.
BISHOP GREGORY:
And so, my brothers, I ask you:
Are you ready to renew your dedication to Christ
as priests of his new covenant?
ALL: I am.
BISHOP GREGORY:
At your ordination
You accepted the responsibilities of the priesthood
Out of love for the Lord Jesus and his Church.
Are you resolved to unite yourselves more closely with Christ and to try to become more like him
by joyfully sacrificing your own pleasure and ambition to bring his peace and love to your brothers and sisters?
ALL: I am.
BISHOP GREGORY:
Are you resolved
to be faithful ministers of the mysteries of God,
to celebrate the Eucharist and the other liturgical services with sincere devotion?
ALL: I am.
BISHOP GREGORY:
Are you resolved to imitate Jesus Christ,
the head and shepherd of the Church.
by teaching the Christian faithful
without thinking of your own profit,
solely for the well-being of the people
you were sent to serve?
ALL: I am.
BISHOP GREGORY:
Are you resolved
to pray for the people of God without ceasing,
and to carry out the duties
of one who has the fullness of the priesthood
so as to afford no grounds for reproach?
ALL: I am.
BISHOP GREGORY:
Despite our unworthiness,
are you willing to fulfill the office of apostle
which Jesus Christ has entrusted to you
and to become more like our High Priest and Good Shepherd, the teacher and servant of all,
and so become a genuine sign
of Christ"s loving presence among you?
ALL: I am.
BISHOP GREGORY:
May the Lord in his love
keep you close to him always,
and may he bring all of us,
his bishops, his priests and his people
to eternal life.
ALL: Amen.
The meeting concludes with the singing of the hymn: O God, Our Help in Ages Past.
