I agree! I told a friend of mine this afternoon that we should remember to pray for our Bishops.

I am praying for a miracle, but if what I saw Harry Flynn mewling on "Nightline" tonight is any indication of the direction of the summer session, we are in big trouble.
To: american colleen
I'm holding out for the intervention of the Holy Spirit. :-}
From talking with our bishop I could tell that he is very concerned but he's also pretty naive or he acts like it.
He told a story about a young man who was abused in this area before the diocese was formed. The priest was sent to jail and I think everyone got a settlement. Against lawyers advice, our bishop went to the families of these children and apologized and offered help. Years later a man called him cussing and screaming and saying how that priest had ruined his life and that he wanted to kill himself. Our bishop arranged to meet him in person and flew to Dallas to see him, counselled him, and paid for professional counselling. I just felt very proud of him and much more loyal to him because he cared enough to do something instead of rationalizing.
NOw I might be rationalizing but I think when he hired our priest even though he had a past abuse on his record, it was this same love for people that made him trust that the priest would do no harm. And even then, he made sure he was supervised by another priest. So in the end it is his loving and trusting which got him in trouble. We just feel very lucky that nothing happened in our parish.

Your Bishop sounds like a fine man (although your parish does sound less than "orthodox"???) who trusted and expected the best from his priests. In some of these cases, it takes and will take the wisdom of Solomon to do what is right and good.
It is pretty hard to conceive of evil behavior and evil thought in someone else if you don't have that particular behavior in yourself. That state of mind added to a person who believes in forgiveness and redemption and has to deal with the homosexually acting out priests, I imagine is a huge trial itself.
It is heartening to know your Bishop took an interest and loved and had compassion for the victim he met with. The Bishops are human too, and like the rest of us, struggle to do the right thing every single day.

here I have a bad feeling about this meeting.

I have a bad feeling about this meeting.Sounds like more "business as usual" and "good ole boy" CYA tactics. Flynn already said there'd be no discussion of the "homosexual issue". THAT IS THE ISSUE!
My only question is (amongst the episcopate) HOW MANY!!!! What a disgrace!
To: ThomasMore
Flynn already said there'd be no discussion of the "homosexual issue". WUHAT?!

To: ThomasMore
If they don't address this issue, a firestorm will result. A necessary firestorm. I'm sticking to my prediction that it will take thirty years to unravel this mess.
To: american colleen
I thought about this a little more last night, I think what has happened with some bishops is not a cover-up but a sometimes mistaken belief in the goodness of man. I think they ended up being enablers.
It is kind of like living with an alcoholic. They say they're going to quit drinking and you want to believe so you choose to believe it and then it happens again ad infinitum

I'm watching the morning coverage on EWTN, and I am watching perversion in action. Here we are in crisis and they begin with some insipid version of Morning Prayer, and then begin by congratulating all of the new bishops.
They don't give a damn about us, folks. It is all smoke and mirrors. Instead of having Fr. Richard John Neuhaus address them, they are having the editor of the extreme liberal rag Commonweal address them, representing the views of the Laity.
It is time to tell the truth. Last night Bishop Galante and several other bishops held a press conference to say that Canon Law does not bar homosexually oriented men from the priesthood.
SO CHANGE THE CANON LAW ALREADY!
It occurs to me most of these men I'm looking at on television are homosexuals. Pure evil. Satan's day to dance in Dallas.
