Prayer for Priests

A Prayer for Priests of the Latin Rite

O Jesus, our great High Priest,
hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priests.
Give them a deep faith, a bright and firm hope, and a burning love
which will ever increase in the course of their priestly life.
In their loneliness, comfort them.
In their sorrows, strengthen them.
In their frustrations, point out to them that it is through suffering
that the soul is purified,
and show them that they are needed by the Church
they are needed by souls
they are needed for the work of redemption. Amen.

O Loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests,
take to your heart your sons who are close to you
because of their priestly ordination
and because fo the power which they have received
to carry on the work of Christ
in a world which needs them so much.
Be their comfort, be their joy, be their strength,
and especially help them to live and to defend
the ideals of consecrated celibacy. Amen.

I heard an audio of his interview with Mother Angelica, but I don't recall his name. But praise God that we have been permitted to hear his witness.

Checking in -- Printed out the entire thread so far -- the prayers are so good and much more well thought out than those I've been sending His Way.

Thanks for the 'ping'!

Father elijah for what you and your faithful brother Priests have sacrificed I would like to thank you.I think St.John Vianney said it in much more eloquent terms than I.

If I were to meet a priest and an angel, I should salute the priest before I saluted the angel. The latter is the friend of God; but the priest holds His place. St. Teresa kissed the ground where a priest had passed. When you see a priest, you should say, "There is he who made me a child of God, and opened Heaven to me by holy Baptism; he who purified me after I had sinned; who gives nourishment to my soul. " At the sight of a church tower, you may say, "What is there in that place?" "The Body of Our Lord. " "Why is He there?" "Because a priest has been there, and has said holy Mass. "

Saint John Vianney

We take our pastor to breakfast every Friday morning after Mass. I've told him how much he means to us hundreds of times, but it is never enough.

I'm going to tell him this Friday that I utter a prayer of thanks everyday that God has given us such a holy man of God to guide us.

Prayer to St. John Vianney

Saintly Pastor of Ars
and splendid model of all servants of souls,
you were considered not very bright
but you possessed the wisdom of Saints.

You were a true pontifex, a bridge-builder
between God and his people
as countless penitents streamed to your confessional.
Inspire all priests to be dedicated mediators
between God and his people today.

A special prayer for father_elijah and also for my own parish priest Father Joe, who will shortly be celibrating his 70th birthday

Most gracious Father, bless them with your special care. May they labor for love of you with deep humility and singleness of purpose, purity of heart and life, and true zeal for your glory.
Amen

Thank you.I still can't remember his name but he was originally a Diocean(sp?)Priest and then, after his conversion and health returned, became a "Intercessors of the Lamb"priest. We sure to have the video in our parish library. That video was logged out a lot! I'll try to remember to see if it's back next Sunday.

Fr. Stephen Scheier.

I heard him speak at a Marian conference a few years ago. He was very compelling, to say the least. ;-)

From The Life of St Theresa of Avila

A person came to me who for two and a half years had been living in mortal sin -- one of the most abominable sins that I had ever heard of -- and during the whole of that time he neither confessed it nor amended his life, and yet went on saying Mass. And, though he confessed his other sins, when it came to that one, he would ask himself how he could possibly confess such a dreadful thing. He had a great desire to give it up but could not bring himself to do so. I was terribly sorry for him and very much distressed to find that God was being offended in such a way. I promised him that I would pray earnestly to God that He would help him and that I would get other people better than myself to do so too, and I wrote to a certain person who, he said, would be able to distribute the letters. And, lo and behold, at the first possible moment, he confessed; for through the many most saintly persons who at my request had prayed to Him on his behalf God was pleased to bestow this mercy upon his soul, and I, miserable though I am, had done what I could and taken the greatest pains about it. He wrote to me and said that he was now so much better that days passed without his falling into this sin, but he was suffering such tortures from temptation that his distress made him feel as if he were already in hell; and he asked me to commend him to God. I spoke about it again to my sisters, through whose prayers the Lord must have granted me this favour, and they took it very much to heart. (None of them could guess who he was.)[11] I begged His Majesty that these tortures and temptations might be assuaged and the devils be sent to torture me instead, provided I gave no offence to the Lord. This led me to suffer a month of the severest tortures and it was during that time that the two incidents happened which I have described. It was the Lord's good pleasure that the devils should leave him; this I learned from letters, for I wrote to tell him what had been happening to me during the past month. His soul took new strength and he remained completely free from his sin and was never tired of giving thanks to the Lord and to me, as if I had done anything for him, unless he was helped by his belief that the Lord was granting me favours. He said that, when he found himself sorely oppressed, he would read my letters, and the temptation would leave him, and added that he was astounded to hear of what I had suffered and of how he had been delivered.

O Jesus, our great High Priest, Victim of the eternal Sacrifice offered for us, look with kindness on Your priests. You have chosen them and You remembered them in Your great priestly prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Remember Your promise that the gates of hell will never gain a foothold in Your Church. Hold close the shepherds that share in Your priesthood, purify them and keep them safe within Your Sacred Heart.

We are the broken-hearted disciples on that dark road to Emmaus. Stay with us as darkness draws near and open Your priests' hearts to the good news of your Resurrection. Nourish them with Your Sacred Body and Blood for they are Yours and we are Yours.

We ask this, Father, in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, Our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

Thanks, HM for this thread. God bless. sfousa

Thanks, Trebics, for this prayer for priests. I seemed to have lost my copy. Better yet that I should memorize it. It's heartbreakingly beautiful and appropriate for this time of crisis.

Many thanks. I will pray to St. John Vianney for this project. St. John Vianney is a friend and my patron saint when I got professed in the Secular Franciscan Order. As my grandson would say - He's cool. :)

Prayer of St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the day of Battle;

Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke Him, we humbly pray, and do Thou,

O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into Hell, Satan and all the other evil spirits,

who prowl through the world, seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.

BTTT for the priests, both those who have sinned through sexual abuse and homesexuality, and also for those who have walked the straight and narrow path prescribed by our Lord, Jesus Christ.
