The Catholic Caucus of Freepers are in need of our own patron saint. We seem to be quickly developing into something of an apostolate of our own. So I think we should take time to post our ideas about who our patron saint(s) should be for our work here on FreeRepublic.
To pro-life; Diago; Dr. Brian Kopp; patent; Askel5 From father_elijah Apr 6 2:29 PM #62 of 62 ^ Please obtain for yourself a copy of The Catechism of the Catholic Church and read it. You will grow immeasurably in your ability to understand the ground and meaning of Catholic faith and practice. You post points up 2 things -- 1) that Protestants cannot refrain from posting something anti-Catholic on a clearly Catholic themed thread; and, 2) that the Protestant view of God is very different from the blessed and Holy Trinity worshipped by Catholics. Our God sits upon the throne of his majesty delighted to be compassed about with his angels and his faithful ones. He is pleased to share with them His Glory and His Spirit, and he thrills to see the members of the Body of His Son calling upon each other and assisting each other. The Church on earth and the Church in paradise are united in this mutual action of care and love which is given its clearest form in prayer for each other. God did not choose to stand alone in a room with nothing and no one in it. Nor did he call for spiritual lone rangers to break out on their own and become their own authority on everything under the sun. He calls us to be the Body of His Son Jesus Christ Our Lord, and when the Body moves together -- how He rejoices. So far from taking anything away from God -- as if that were even possible -- we express our joy and deepest love for God by giving us a family and household of the faith where we learn we are not alone and that we are surrounded on every side by love -- the love in the prayers of the Church on earth and the prayers of the Church in heaven. I try to stay away from the controversy, to read the posts and learn. I pray for those who are fighting the battle eloquently but then I see things which have to be addressed that I as a Catholic Christian cannot let stand and there I go again.
I don't know how the moderators work and I've never hit the abuse button on anyone though I've wished I could get at them in the flesh, if you know what I mean.
The patron saints of Missionaries?

Apostolate, lay | Paul |
Battle | Michael the Archangel |
Catechists, Catechumens | Robert Bellarmine, Charles Borromeo |
Editors | John Bosco, Francis de Sales |
Education, public | Martin de Porres |
Eloquence, sacred | John Chrysostom |
Librarians, libraries | Catherine of Alexandria, Jerome |
Missions, Missionaries | Francis Xavier, Therese of Lisieux |
Preaching | John Chrysostom |
Press | Edmund Campion |
Press, Catholic | Francis de Sales |
Teachers | John Baptist de la Salle, Gregory the Great |
Writers | Francis de Sales |
But you have managed to suggest three of my name saints, so I'm just a little biased.
I'll throw another one into the mix. How about Our Mother of Perpetual Help? I think we need endless help in this fight.
(And St. Michael the Archangel is part of the OMPH icon!)
Benedicat vos omnipotens Deus.
I would also vote for St. Catherine of Siena to be our Patron, or perhaps Pope St. Gregory VII (Hildebrand)
And, of course, I'd throw in St. Joseph just because, well, I really like him.
With respect to Divine Mercy Sunday, I just this evening finished the Novena begun on Good Friday and Father, know that the persecuted Christians of the Sudan are always in my prayers.
Finally, Happy Birthday.

i have read the Roman Catholic catechism, and i was deeply saddened by various things i read.
i would agree that the Roman Catholic and Protestant concepts of God differ greatly. this is because Protestants believe in the God of the Bible, including all that He entails. while Roman Catholics believe in most things that the Bible has to say about God, they refuse to accept certain things. i call on all of those who read this to pick up their Bible's, and read what is said (it isn't hard). if you read with an open mind, you will see how the Roman Catholic church has strayed greatly from the original church that Jesus Christ established.
Happy Birthday, Father Elijah!!! And ping your FRiends! FreeRepublic.com "A Conservative News Forum"

No need to be coy. Say what you mean with specifics, not ambiguities. Sounds like you're an advocate of personal interpretation of Scripture, which as you no doubt know, since you read that Bible, violates Scripture.
Incidentally, make sure that Bible you're reading is a Catholic one, not an abridged, edited, corrupted Protestant version of Sacred Scripture. Since anyone who knows anything about Christianity knows that were it not for the Catholic Church the book known as the Bible wouldn't exist. Even Luther knew that: "We are obliged to yield many things to the Papists [Catholics] - that they possess the Word of God which we received from them, otherwise we should have known nothing at all about it." Luthers Commentary On St. John, chapter 16.
