For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
1 I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him.
4 Blessed is the one
who trusts in the Lord,
who does not look to the proud,
to those who turn aside to false gods.[b]
5 Many, Lord my God,
are the wonders you have done,
the things you planned for us.
None can compare with you;
were I to speak and tell of your deeds,
they would be too many to declare.
6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—
but my ears you have opened[c]—
burnt offerings and sin offerings[d] you did not require.
7 Then I said, “Here I am, I have come—
it is written about me in the scroll.[e]
8 I desire to do your will, my God;
your law is within my heart.”
9 I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly;
I do not seal my lips, Lord,
as you know.
10 I do not hide your righteousness in my heart;
I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help.
I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness
from the great assembly.
11 Do not withhold your mercy from me, Lord;
may your love and faithfulness always protect me.
12 For troubles without number surround me;
my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see.
They are more than the hairs of my head,
and my heart fails within me.
13 Be pleased to save me, Lord;
come quickly, Lord, to help me.
14 May all who want to take my life
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire my ruin
be turned back in disgrace.
15 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”
be appalled at their own shame.
16 But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
“The Lord is great!”
17 But as for me, I am poor and needy;
may the Lord think of me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
you are my God, do not delay.

Back in the Seventies, there were a number of ancient pioneer crafts that were being revived. Perhaps it was in rebellion against all the boring, plastic, cookie-cutter products that were flooding the marketplace, or maybe it was a left-over echo of the "hippie sixties", but suddenly, people were interested in cooking, sewing, quilting, plants, ceramics, macrame, weaving, spinning, candle-makings, and other do-it-yourself projects. My sister and I became enrolled in a ceramics class, but that involved waiting for pieces to be fired, which sometimes took over a week as our "artwork" waited in a queue for use of the kiln. Grrrr. This was the very reason I had given up oil painting in favor of Acrylics. My painting professor at Mass College of Art had invented Acrylics, but even he used oils in class. However, I thought that Acrylics were the greatest thing since sliced bread! You could actually have a finished and dry painting in a day!
After the ceramics studio went belly-up, my sister started making candles. Living in close proximity to Plymouth Plantation, Mystic Seaport, and Sturbridge Village, we had witnessed historic re-enactors making candles out of tallow and beeswax. Beeswax is extremely expensive and tallow stinks, but paraffin wax worked just as well. So Sis commandeered some of Mom's pots and pans and began melting wax on the kitchen stove. Some of her creations were really lovely. Multicolored and of various scents, the candles filled mason jars and glass vessels with layers of color and fragrances. Sometimes she would embed seashells or other items in the wax, and they were wonderful gifts.
So, OK...I could do that! I got out an assortment of jars, the waxy pots and pans, the chunks of paraffin, and went to work.
But I had not realized that each layer of color had to be completely hardened before the next color was poured. Otherwise, one would be stuck with a really NASTY sloppy greyish brown color. It required even MORE patience than ceramics! I was a complete bust as a candle-maker, and would have been the shame of my colonial village.
I took up quilting. I didn't have to wait for anything to dry or harden, or be fired in a kiln, or wait in line for anything. I got so good at quilting that I got into a cat-fight with an Amish Woman at a Connecticut Craft Fair! (She was mad at me because I had 20 stitches to the inch as opposed to her 15.)
Now some of you may say that quilting requires as much patience than any other craft. But it suited me fine because I could set my own pace and proceed from step-to-step without having to wait between steps. This was NOT the case with Oil-Painting, Ceramics, or Candle-making.
Once, at the beginning of a New Year, a Pastor gave all of us a challenge. He suggested that each of us pick a word that will be a goal in our prayer life. The word I chose was "Patience". I really need work in that department!
Today's Psalm is about Patience. Perhaps I could write a song with the words so I won't forget them.
I'll get on it right away! I am impatient to get started!
My prayers always. God bless.

Psalm 91
1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,*
2 will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.’
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
or the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,*
the Most High your dwelling-place,
10 no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.
14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honour them.
16 With long life I will satisfy them,
and show them my salvation.

Amen

Good Lord, give me patience and give it to me now! ;)
Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America-250.
Good word, patience. My wife crochets, she did a lot of it until the wrists couldn’t handle it. Made a king size bedspread that took a year and a large dining table cover. Persistence and goal.

Joining in prayer.
I’m impressed with your skills. I can’t even sew on a button.
AMEN! thank you. Joining in prayer.

Amen. I heard someone once query, “Did you really think God didn’t hear your prayer?” It reminds me to exercise more patience in waiting for the answer.
