Psalm 36[a]

For the director of music. Of David the servant of the Lord.

1 I have a message from God in my heart
     concerning the sinfulness of the wicked:[b]
 There is no fear of God
     before their eyes.

2 In their own eyes they flatter themselves
     too much to detect or hate their sin.

3 The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful;
     they fail to act wisely or do good.

4 Even on their beds they plot evil;
     they commit themselves to a sinful course
     and do not reject what is wrong.

5 Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
     your faithfulness to the skies.

6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
     your justice like the great deep.
     You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.

7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
     People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

8 They feast on the abundance of your house;
     you give them drink from your river of delights.

As I stated at the very beginning of this long study of "Personalities in the Bible", I've had six dogs in 50 years. My present Furry Companion is Tippy, an Australian Cattle Dog, who is a lovable lunatic. Her personality is totally different from that of Penny-The-Prancing-Pitbull(RIP), who inspired the following story:

One of our Beloved Prayer Warriors is a Veterinarian, so she KNOWS this is not a made-up story! (You know who you are!)

When I first adopted Penny, the Shelter told me that she had really dirty teeth and would need a professional cleaning. Having gone through this once before with Lynn-DAH(RIP), I knew that this would involve General Anesthesia and about $800.00. However, I adopted Penny anyway, and figured I would cross that bridge later. I looked in Penny's mouth, and saw that she had all her teeth, but they just had a lot of plaque on them. I began to search different products that would remedy the situation. One was a product that was added to her water, but she refused to drink it. I tried brushing her teeth, but she kept licking the toothbrush. Finally I found a product that did the job, and she likes them.

The problem is that Penny likes them TOO much, and the retail price is $3.00 PER BISCUIT. (I get them a little cheaper online), so she is limited to ONE PER DAY. It has become a Daily Ritual, and occurs usually at the exact moment I am posting the J-Thread.

1. Penny comes into the office and approaches me as I am typing Today's thread on the computer. She sits down next to me, cocks her head, and stares at me with her Big Brown Eyes. I ignore her, because I am posting the Thread, for crying out loud.

2. Penny comes in closer right next to the chair, and puts her face on my lap, and looks at me with her Big Brown Eyes. I ignore her and keep typing.

3. Penny starts pawing my leg with anticipation. "COME ON, MOM! I WANNA COOKIE!!!"

4. OK, I'm not going to get anything done until Penny gets her Dental Treatment, so I get up, walk to the kitchen, and head for the Cookie Jar. Penny gleefully prances along with me and sits at my feet, quivering with anticipation.

5. Now, I don't just GIVE her the cookie. I make a big deal of opening the jar. Then I look over the identical cookies to choose just the right one. Upon selection, I sniff the 6" cookie as if it is a fine Cuban Cigar. Sometimes I pretend that I am going to eat it rather than bestowing it upon Penny. All though this game, she sits, and follows my every move. Finally, I reach the cookie downward, and she gently takes it from my hand, and then snaps it away into a playful crouch with her tail wagging in the air. It takes her about a minute to consume the cookie, and then she comes back into the office and lies down at my feet, a picture of confidence and contentment. (She is 11 now and has a mouthful of clean, beautiful teeth!).

Some of you may wonder what this has to do with Psalms or with prayer. Maybe I just like Dog Stories. Or maybe there is a lesson here.

David, being a Shepherd as well as a Warrior, an Artist, a Musician, and a Poet, had a unique perspective about animal life. He probably had a few sheepdogs in his day and observed their behavior. He described his own zeal for God as a "Deer panting with thirst for a little stream." The anticipation and vigilance of God's Creatures were something he could relate to.

When we go to God in Prayer, we are not to give up. We must BELIEVE that God will answer our prayer in His perfect timing. No matter how weird it must seem to Penny when she sees me sniffing and pretending to eat HER cookie, she KNOWS that she will get it in the end. She always accepts it with joy as she takes it gently from my hand. She persists until she gets it. It's the same thing Every Single Day.

1. Persist in Prayer

2. Don't Give Up.

3. Believe in God's Answer.

4. Receive With Joy.

Just my Two Cents...er...One Penny.

Tippy gets those same Dental Biscuits, and she loves them too. When she sees me go to the computer, she BARKS at me until I give her the cookie. As soon as I head for the Cookie Jar, she runs to her crate and waits. That's totally different behavior for the same reward. Both Penny(RIP) and Tippy are DOGS. They do all the "doggie" things. But they have totally Different Personalities even in the same environment, with the same "Mama", and the same Cookie.

How much more do people differ, each having a unique soul and spirit designed by Our Creator, who is infinitely "creative"?

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. (Mark 4:22)
