Psalm 29

A psalm of David.

1  Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings,

    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

2  Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;

    worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness.

3  The voice of the Lord is over the waters;

    the God of glory thunders,

    the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.

4  The voice of the Lord is powerful;

    the voice of the Lord is majestic.

5  The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;

the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.

6  He makes Lebanon leap like a calf,

    Sirion[b] like a young wild ox.

7  The voice of the Lord strikes

with flashes of lightning.

8  The voice of the Lord shakes the desert;

the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.

9  The voice of the Lord twists the oaks[c]

and strips the forests bare.

And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

10  The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;

    the Lord is enthroned as King forever.

11  The Lord gives strength to his people;

    the Lord blesses his people with peace.

I never did fully understand what my Dad did for a living. One week, he'd be away at a Summer camp teaching Lifeguards CPR, another week he's be repairing SAC 16mm Training Films, and another day he'd be installing a Red Telephone in the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis, in time for a visit from the Soviet Ambassador. He once brought home a tiny piece of a communications satellite and dared me to rip it in half. (I couldn't), and then we went outside in the backyard to watch Echo 1 fly over our house. All I knew was that he worked for the "Telephone Company".

Until the invention of Radio and TV, and, subsequently, the Internet, it was hard to imagine the WHOLE WORLD experiencing the same thing all at the same time. Liberal Bible Commentators scoffed at the Book of Revelation, mainly because it described the WHOLE WORLD experiencing the same thing in "Real Time". This is especially evident in the story of the Death and Resurrection of the Two Witnesses, which is seen by EVERYBODY as it happens. What was once considered "Allegorical" is now completely "Possible".

In 2020AD something happened that the whole world experienced together. Whether it was a Lab Leak, a Deliberate Plot, or an "Unfortunate Set of Circumstances" we may never know for sure, but we ALL have our theories about it. It changed a lot of things that will never be the same. In 2021, while we were still trying to figure out "WHAT HAPPENED????", I wrote this:

Back in January 2020, I became very sick. I lay in bed for hours, neither eating or drinking, and had a hard time breathing. Somehow I managed to do two things of importance...walking the dog and getting this thread out in the morning. Then it was back to bed for another 16 hours of fitful sleep. I remember asking for prayer, and I remember your wonderful responses, but that's about all I remember for a period of two weeks.

Right after that, rumors floated about a new virus from China, and then, on March 15th, the gov'nah closed all the bars, pubs, taverns, churches, VFW Halls, and stores in our state. This hit my family particularly hard because we ALL make our living doing music in the aforementioned places. Even when not making money, we would travel as a body to "Open-Mike Nights" and sing together. This was our job, our profession, our socialization, even a kind of "Therapy", as my B-I-L suffers from Early Onset Alzheimer's and was a fabulous guitar player in his day. Even though he didn't know what song he was playing, his fingers went to the right place. Anyway, our little community of musicians was immediately without work and without a social life.

Now the guv'nah has allowed live music again, BUT NO SINGING! This has nothing to do with "science", but seams to be a scene from "Yellow Submarine" with the guv'nah in the role of "The King of the Blue Meanies". March 15th 2020 became the new "Day The Music Died". I had not sung a note since my illness, and did not realize that my two-week battle with sickness was probably with COVID. The lingering symptom became the loss of my VOICE. My five octaves was reduced to less than one, and I can't seem to get a full line out without having to take a breath. But, since there had been a "No Singing" edict, I didn't notice it till I went back to Music Ministry in Church in December of 2020. As I croak my way through a hymn, singing baritone back-up harmonies, I realize I am going to have to start from scratch building up my vocal chops so that I can more effectively minister before the Lord. I know what I need to do...I just have to DO IT.

Anyway, today's Psalm speaks of "The Voice of The Lord". The Voice THUNDERS. It is the sound of the great oceans and the thunderstorm. Reading this Psalm assures me that I WILL get my voice back, because it is all being done for HIM.

By the way, we are "allowed" to sing in church, but even if we weren't, I would anyway!

Now, here we are, six years later, and still asking questions. One thing we can probably agree on though, is that this is something we ALL experienced together. We may have perceived it differently, and different countries may have responded differently, but it was something the WHOLE WORLD was involved in.

The "Voice of the LORD" will have no difficulty reaching everybody at the same time.

November 2019 was when that nasty thing arrived.

My brother lost his sense of taste from the Wu-Flu. This was a real catastrophe because his wife is an amazing chef and derives a lot of her self-worth on her wonderful cuisine.

It even negatively affected their marriage.
