🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem🇮🇱 (9/8/26)[Prayer]

Personalities

Psalm 17

A prayer of David.

1  Hear me, Lord, my plea is just;
    listen to my cry.
Hear my prayer—
    it does not rise from deceitful lips.

2  Let my vindication come from you;
    may your eyes see what is right.

3  Though you probe my heart,
    though you examine me at night and test me,
you will find that I have planned no evil;
    my mouth has not transgressed.

4  Though people tried to bribe me,
    I have kept myself from the ways of the violent
    through what your lips have commanded.

5  My steps have held to your paths;
    my feet have not stumbled.

6  I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;
    turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.

7  Show me the wonders of your great love,
    you who save by your right hand
    those who take refuge in you from their foes.

8  Keep me as the apple of your eye;
    hide me in the shadow of your wings

9  from the wicked who are out to destroy me,
    from my mortal enemies who surround me.

10  They close up their callous hearts,
    and their mouths speak with arrogance.

11  They have tracked me down, they now surround me,
    with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.

12  They are like a lion hungry for prey,
    like a fierce lion crouching in cover.

13  Rise up, Lord, confront them, bring them down;
    with your sword rescue me from the wicked.

14  By your hand save me from such people, Lord,
    from those of this world whose reward is in this life.
May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies;
    may their children gorge themselves on it,
    and may there be leftovers for their little ones.

15  As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face;
    when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,

Hallowed be Name!

You Alone Are Worthy to be Praised and Worshiped,

for You Alone Are the One True God,

From Everlasting to Everlasting,

All Seeing and All Knowing,

Righteous,

Just and Holy,

Slow to anger,

And abounding in tender mercies.

 Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance

Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

A familiar trope in legends and fairy tales is that of a supposedly "magic" article that gave its bearer power and victory. The twist in the story was that the article itself had no special properties at all, but it was the confidence that it instilled in the character. This plot device was famously used in Disney's Dumbo, when clutching the crow feather in his trunk, Dumbo found out that he could fly. Of course, if Dumbo's ears hadn't been designed specifically according to the laws of Physics and Aerodynamics, a single crow feather wouldn't have helped in the least. As children, we were admonished that "trying a towel around our necks to resemble Superman's Cape would NOT enable us to fly, no matter HOW MUCH we 'Believed' it would".

Today's Psalm speaks of confidence, but it's not faith in a magic object, nor is it SELF-Confidence. It's Confidence in The One True God that gives us the Victory.

Every Spring, I have to remember WHO rides beside me when I get back on the Harley for my initial ride after a long cold winter. The Spring after the COVID Lockdown was particularly "scary" for some reason, and I ended up writing this in March 2021:

Today was a beautiful Spring Day, and my Sister drove me to my Brother's house, where my motorcycle has been in storage. The crocuses are up, and it's time to fire up the Harley! I turned the key, opened the fuel line, and barely kissed the starter with my thumb. She started right up. Suddenly a ridiculous wave of fear swept over me. I'm 69 years old, overweight, and have been cooped up all winter due to the Lockdown. What if I forgot how to ride? What if I lose control? What if ...? I immediately cast down these vain imaginations and stated firmly:

"This is my 50th YEAR riding, my 30th on a Harley, and my 28th on THIS PARTICULAR MOTORCYCLE! There are 39,000 miles on this bike and they're all mine. Besides, I have a Father in heaven Who loves me!"

Well as soon as first gear was engaged, and the Bike moved forward, it became part of my body, and we moved as one. I gassed up, and drove home. Then I sat on a little piano stool and polished every bit of chrome, and put the bike away for the night. God's timing is perfect. Who would have thought that the little beat-up 68 Honda CB175 on the cobblestone streets of Jamaica Plain MA ( because we couldn't afford a car) would lead to this a half century later?

Psalm 17 is labeled a "Prayer of David", and it is intensely personal. David is pleading with God for vindication. This is not an improper prayer. Impropriety would begin if David sought his own revenge and attempted to vindicate himself without trusting in God.

Sometimes this takes longer than we would like, but when we "jump the gun" and attempt our own revenge or vindication without relying on the Almighty, we are asking for trouble.

While David was on the run from Saul, he had at least two opportunities to just kill Saul and get it over with. In both instances, David's advisors urged him to do that very thing. However, David respected God's anointed both times, and it worked out for the best. David may have had some sins on his soul, but regicide was not one of them.

God's ways are not our ways, and sometimes we find His "timing" to be incomprehensible. And yet, I can look back at events that happened a half-century ago and see how some are coming to fruition just now in my life.

The Bike is now coming up on 50,000 miles, still all mine, I'm five years older, and still overweight. And GOD is still my Confidence, my Strength, and my Victory.

Good word, even the word regicide, hoo fancy. Remember, overweight depends on the frame, is your harley overweight, no. Just well proportioned.
