🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem🇮🇱 (9/4/26)[Prayer]

Personalities
Psalm 13[a]
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
3 Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
4 and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
How Blessed,
How Glorious,
How Wonderful,
Is Your Most Holy Name!
How Mighty and Perfect is Your Word,
And Your Promise,
Which You have allowed us a glimpse
into Your Perfect Will!
You, The Everlasting,
The Omnipotent,
The Immortal and Eternal,
Not Bound By Time or Space,
because You Created it,
Your Ways are not our ways,
And yet we hunger and thirst for You,
like a thirsty little deer panting in the forest,
seeking a bubbling spring for a fresh sip of water!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

The last time we looked at Psalms in this Thread was over five years ago, during the pandemic. A lot has happened in five years, and we all see things a bit differently now. The last time, we were looking at Psalms in the context of "Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds in the Bible". This time around, it's still a Topical Study, but the topic is David's Personality. You can tell a lot about a songwriter's personality through their lyrics, as we discovered in our discussions about Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, and others. In my own experience as a songwriter, I could never imagine writing lyrics that I knew weren't true. I'm sure a Shrink could do a whole psychoanalysis of me just from reading my lyrics from the past 67 years (started writing songs when I was about 8, and now I'm pushing 74, so even THAT is true.)
Psalm 13 is the "How Long" Psalm. It shows David's frustration that God isn't doing things on David's Schedule. It does, however, show David's complete trust in God's timing, even as it drives him crazy waiting.
Looking back at the essay I wrote when we looked at this Psalm in 2020, I see that a lot of us were crying out, "HOW LONG????" First it was 15 Days, then a couple more weeks, then months, then years. And now, when we look back, we wonder what it was all about. Here Goes:
I have three little stories for you today, all of which can be titled: "HOW LONG?".
1. The Elderly Mac:Twelve years ago my dear late husband set me up with a ground-breaking product called "The Mac Mini." This wonderful piece of technology has encased within all my stories, song lyrics, musical compositions, art, photos, and even this thread, going back 11 years. The CD burner on it has finally "burned out" after years of faithful service in my recording studio, burning thousands of compact discs for my clients and students. After backing up all my data, and after a vain attempt to upgrade the Operating System (mine was JUST TOO OLD to upgrade), I decided it was time to get the BRAND NEW Mac Mini which has just come out. The Apple Store is less than three miles away, so I collected up all my credit cards and went there in the freezing cold.
Upon entering the store (masked), I was swooped down upon by two uniformed security guards (masked) brandishing what looked like Buck-Rodgers-Type Ray Guns. They each aimed the "guns" to my temples and pronounced me fit to enter, as I did not have a fever. As I began to walk in, they demanded that I stand on a SPOT on the floor. I said that I had come to buy the new Mac Mini. All I wanted to do was spend my money and get out of there. A store employee directed me to another SPOT on the floor and asked how he could help me. I told him I wanted to buy the new Mac Mini, and I was prepared to spend money in the store. Didn't they want my money?
"Come back in 45 minutes, and I will have a consultant help you," he said.
Forty-Five minutes was not a long enough time to go home and come back again, so I bundled up and trekked across the freezing parking lot to kill time at the book store. Maybe I would even buy a book. Remember THOSE?
2. The Book Store: "Dedicated To The Fine Art Of Browsing" used to be the motto of this Book Store. However, it is difficult to "browse" when dressed like my Inuit Ancestors, wearing a surgical mask, and admonished to stay 6 feet away from everybody else. On top of that, the Book Store had removed the Coffee Shop, all the chairs, and had signs posted everywhere not to "handle" the books. They even had a place to put books after one had "touched them". I felt like a LEPER. Then I saw a book I might like.
It was by Victor Wooten, my absolute FAVORITE Bass Player, and, possibly the Greatest in the world, now that Jaco Pastorius is no longer with us. It was a philosophical book about MUSIC, and was endorsed by my SECOND-Favorite Bass Player, Chuck Rainey. So I bought that book and another one about music, and, now, sweating in my winter coat, I trudged back to the Apple Store to spend some more money.
3. The Second Visit: Upon entering the store, the two Space-Cops swooped in on me again, armed with their thermometers, and I once again passed for healthy. They directed me to stand on a SPOT.
"But I have an appointment," I challenged.
"STAND ON THE SPOT" was the response.
After about twenty minutes an older salesman directed me to a table and presented me with the New Mac Mini.
"Where is the slot for the CD Burner?"I asked.
"What do you want THAT for? NOBODY uses THOSE anymore!"
Well, back and forth we went, discussing the merits of CD's versus music-sharing , iTunes, iPhones, etc blah blah blah, until I finally handed the new Mac Mini back and said:
FORGEDDABOUTIT!
It was at that point, the salesman took pity on the old lady in her Inuit Garb and mask, and whispered:
"Buy a USB-CD burner online and hook it up to your old Mac Mini. It WILL work."
And that's exactly what I did.
4. Conclusion: I could not wait to read the Book by Victor Wooten, and it turned out to be the worst drivel that I had ever let into my eyes. As a Music Teacher, I was appalled that the Greatest Bass Player In The World was attaching all sorts of silly, pop-psychology, New Age Nonsense to the Art of Music, and eschewing the fundamentals such as scales, modes, notes, and PRACTICING. On top of that, The author created a foolish story about a mysterious guru who appeared in his life to share these "important" secrets. It was worse than The Alchemist, which, up till now, was the stoopidist book I had ever read.
That being said, my CD drive arrived in the mail yesterday and I have already burned several, preserving my music and being able to listen to it in my car as I drive around. God is Good!
How Long, will we live in a world of fear (fear of COVID, fear of Browsing, fear of germs, fear of interaction with others, even fear of dedicating oneself to one's craft)? I, for one, am mighty SICK of it. How bout you?
Well, there you go. I think it's safe to say that every one of us has prayed "How Long?". It seems to be a very HUMAN thing to pray. Life has shown us in these past years that everything comes to an end eventually, and is replaced by something else. But the "How Long?" Prayer has been going on for at least 3000 years, when David penned these lyrics. It probably went on long before that, and will continue until the Lord Returns. And to that I say:
EVEN SO, COME QUICKLY LORD JESUS!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
Blessed Is The Nation Whose God Is The LORD (Psalm 33)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
Hallelujah and Amen
