🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem🇮🇱 (8/22/26)[Prayer]

Personalities
2 Samuel 8:1-14
David’s Victories
8Â In the course of time, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Metheg Ammah from the control of the Philistines.
2Â David also defeated the Moabites. He made them lie down on the ground and measured them off with a length of cord. Every two lengths of them were put to death, and the third length was allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.
3Â Moreover, David defeated Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when he went to restore his monument at[a] the Euphrates River. 4Â David captured a thousand of his chariots, seven thousand charioteers[b] and twenty thousand foot soldiers. He hamstrung all but a hundred of the chariot horses.
5Â When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them. 6Â He put garrisons in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to him and brought tribute. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.
7Â David took the gold shields that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. 8Â From Tebah[c] and Berothai, towns that belonged to Hadadezer, King David took a great quantity of bronze.
9Â When Tou[d] king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer, 10Â he sent his son Joram[e] to King David to greet him and congratulate him on his victory in battle over Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold and of bronze.
11Â King David dedicated these articles to the Lord, as he had done with the silver and gold from all the nations he had subdued: 12Â Edom[f] and Moab, the Ammonites and the Philistines, and Amalek. He also dedicated the plunder taken from Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
13Â And David became famous after he returned from striking down eighteen thousand Edomites[g] in the Valley of Salt.
14Â He put garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.

Our Father Who Art In Heaven,

How Blessed, Hallowed, and Sanctified

Is Your Most Holy Name!

We Worship You,

And You Alone,

For You Alone Are Worthy,

You Alone Are The One True God of The Universe!

Forgive us, LORD,

if we ever elevate ourselves above You in our own estimation!

Forgive us for our Pride and Hubris!

 Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

One of my favorite TV Programs in the 1960s was "Green Acres". Even the title of the series was ironic. The premise was that Oliver, a high-powered New York attorney, longs for the bucolic life on an American Farm. His glamorous wife Lisa, played by Eva Gabor, can't even think about living anywhere but a penthouse in New York City. But, as the husband, Oliver insists on moving to Hooterville, where he has already purchased a farm property, which in the brochure, looked magnificent. He was ready to settle in as a sort of "Country Squire" with acres of green crops rustling in the wind, amber waves of grain, and flocks and herds grazing peacefully under the Spacious Skies.
As any aficionado of the show knows, that is not what Oliver got. Stuck in the middle of the most unproductive land in the county, barely stood a Dust-Bowl Era abandoned farmhouse, in which nothing worked, and which foiled every attempt to fix it. Hooterville was filled with lovable but weird characters who seemed to be from a different planet than Oliver and Lisa. The hilarity ensued as Oliver and Lisa attempted to adapt to this new lifestyle. My parents (BOTH of them City Folk) loved the series as well. "Fish Out Of Water" comedy is nearly always hysterically funny.
In an amusing twist, Lisa adapts to Country Life much better than Oliver does. She bustles around the kitchen making horrible coffee and hotcakes (which end up being used as engine gaskets in an emergency repair of the old truck!), wearing her white fur-trimmed peignoir and singing a merry tune. Oliver, on the other hand, is constantly butting heads with the locals, plowing the field in an Armani Suit, and drowning in a sea of frustration.
I've found myself in both types of roles in my own life.
We all walk in a series of "Bubbles". There's the Political Bubble, the Religious Bubble, the Hobby Bubble, the Work Bubble, and so on. Sometimes these bubbles intersect, with varying results. Just last month, while eating in a restaurant, my Gym Bubble intersected with my Family Bubble, and I was the only Common Denominator. After making all the introductions, I went away disoriented. My Gym Bubble Friend is so fit and slender, I had never imagined her EATING, much less eating in a Tourist Restaurant in Plymouth!
David's life and personality pass through so many bubbles that it's hard to keep track. He's involved in Music, Livestock, Mercenary, Pirate, Fugitive, Military, Family, and Political Bubbles. With all of these things going on, SOMETHING had to give. One or more of these "Bubbles" was going to burst.
Tomorrow, we will take a side trip through David's Songs, which tell us more about his Personality than anything else. Leave a book mark in 2 Samuel and join me tomorrow in the Book of Psalms. Since there are 150 Psalms, mostly by David, this will be a long journey!

Psalm 91
1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,*
2 will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.’
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
or the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,*
the Most High your dwelling-place,
10 no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.
14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honour them.
16 With long life I will satisfy them,
and show them my salvation.
