Rorate Caeli reported published a report from InfoVaticana yesterday morning showing that two Catholic bishops and a monsignor participated in a pagan ritual (venerating and praying to Pachamama) in a conference intended to prepare the way for Pope Leo’s trip to Peru this November. The initial story came from the Vatican News, and unsurprisingly, Vatican News omitted several key details.
The event titled “Weaving Voices for Dignity: For Human Rights and the Common Good” was organized by three organizations: Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos (CNDDHH), Comisión Episcopal de Acción Social (Episcopal Commission for Social Action of the Peruvian Bishops’ Conference), and Derechos Humanos Sin Fronteras. In addition to representatives from unnamed “social organizations, Indigenous peoples and communities, grassroots groups, leaders, and human rights defenders,” the list of participants in the event included Bishop Lizardo Estrada Herrera, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Cusco and Secretary General of CELAM (Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council), Bishop Miguel Ángel Cadenas of Iquitos, and Monsignor Jordi Bertomeu, official of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.

The sanitized version of the event described by Vatican News, indicates that:
The gathering provided a space to share experiences from different territories, identify common challenges, and develop proposals in response to the main human rights issues facing the country.
However, CNDDHH indicated that the event was organized “to dialogue, share their demands, and build agreements around human rights and the common good,” drawing together:
Representatives of social organizations, indigenous and peasant communities, women’s and youth groups, LGBTIQ+ people, people with disabilities, human and environmental rights defenders, relatives of victims of state violence, and faith communities.
So, in addition to opening the meeting with idolatrous veneration of a pagan deity, the meeting was held in conjunction with LGBT groups to include such in the promotion of “human dignity” and “human rights.”
The most alarming aspect of the meeting was the pagan rite held in the opening.
Video shared by InfoVaticana shows very clearly that both Bp. Lizardo Estrada and Msgr. Jordi Bertomeu deposit coca leaves in a “payment to the earth.” As can be seen in the video, on the floor is a mandala used for venerating the Pachamama, and participants are carrying cocoa leaves to a bowl of fire to burn the leaves as an offering to the Pachamama. At 51 seconds in the video, Bp. Estrada passes by the mandala with the cocoa leaves cradled in his hands, and he deposits the leaves in the bowl of fire to the right. At 55 seconds in the video, he is followed by Msgr. Bertomeu (wearing blue jeans and a gray coat) who is seen likewise placing his cocoa leaves into the bowl of fire before returning to his place to the left of the screen. While this is happening, a voiceover attempts to explain the significance of the ritual:
We have a piece of pottery. We place it with a little breath, always thanking it for what we are grateful for.
This month is for giving thanks. Truthfully, however you wish, however you feel it too, because it also comes from the heart, and we place it there and return to our spot here. To the ceramics, we are going to fire it – we are going to return to the fire, because Cuzco is a territory that works a lot with the memory of the sun, the memory of the little fire, and we are going to ask it to transform, to transform to what we are asking for to carry these messages. Because we also come with territories, we come with ancestors, we come with foremothers, we come with feelings – so we are going to ask Grandmother Fire to take it and to take all our messages to bring us wisdom so it returns in the form of wisdom to each one of us.
It must be stated firmly and unequivocally that what took place in this video is a clear violation of the First Commandment and the Vatican must investigate whether this constitutes an act of apostasy or heresy.
But this is just the beginning of the problems with this meeting. According to the publication, La Abeja, the meeting was called by Msgr. Bertomeu:
What is concerning is that this was not an event organized by civil society groups to which the Church was invited. The meeting was inaugurated by the Secretary General of CELAM himself, who set the framework by appealing to the Social Doctrine of the Church.
Given that Msgr. Bertomeu is said to have been the principal organizer for this event, then the veneration of and prayers to the Pachamama were done under his authority. Additionally, the pro-Trans messaging and participating organizations are his fault as well. It’s worth noting here that in 2019 he said the following regarding homosexuality:
affirming the direct connection of homosexuality with pedophilia from the data outlined above, not only involves the commission of a great injustice, but also the criminalization of a certain sexual identity.
Ruth Luque, a Peruvian Senator, attended and participated in the event, and on August 14, she posted pictures from it saying:
Macro South Encounter in Cusco ‘Weaving Voices for Dignity, Human Rights, and the Common Good’ – two days alongside diverse actors from the south of the country. Listening, accompanying, and working for those who have historically been forgotten. A space that, stemming from Pope Leo XIV’s visit, emerges from the citizenry. Faith reminds us that serving the people is also defending their dignity.
Accompanying this statement is a photo of participants holding up a transgender flag.

In a promotional video produced by CNDDHH showing different points in the proceedings of this event, we can clearly see that LGBT ideologies sat front and center. Just 3 seconds into the video, a presenter points to a diagram showing the LGBT flag and the word “Trans” with the symbol for the transgender movement.

Translated, the board reads:
EJE 7 (Axis 7)
Topics / issues of greatest concern
2) Access to comprehensive health for LGBTIQ+ people (trans/nb) [nb means “non-binary”]
3) Dignified access to mental health spaces for PPVV (PPVV likely means “People Living with HIV”)
- C. Comunidad
- Reduce stigma about mental health
- LGBTIQ+
- Reduce barriers
- Management and treatment, children & adolescents
But this is unsurprising, considering that Coordinadora Nacional de Derechos Humanos (CNDDHH) is a radically pro-abortion, pro-LGBT organization. For one thing, their very logo displays a woman wearing the green pro-abortion scarf next to someone wearing an LGBT rainbow shirt:

Their support for LGBT ideologies is prominent throughout their entire presence on social media, such as their posting of this absolutely blasphemous pro-LGBT picture:

And their support for abortion is equally prominent. Again, their social media pages are filled with the promotion and support for abortion, but this post from September 2024 suffices to illustrate the point. In this post, CNDDHH publicly declares that it supports a “right to choose” abortion, states that abortion “is a human right” and says “girls have a right to be girls, not mothers.”

Not only did Msgr. Bertomeu of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith partner with this organization for this event, but the Vatican News Service gave no indication of its radical positions on abortion or sodomy at all.
In fact, Bruno Montenegro – seen in Ruth Luque’s photo (above) of the transgender flag held at this event – attended these meetings as a representative of the Transmasculine Fraternity of Peru (Fraternidad Transmasculina del Perú). The following post from this organization this past June gives ample illustration of what this group is all about.

Another organization participating in the event is the Confederación Campesina del Perú de la CCP. This organization was founded in 1947 by Juan Hipolito Pevez and Jose Carlos Mariategui – the latter of which is well known as “undoubtedly the most vigorous and original Marxist thinker that Latin America has ever known” and “the greatest Marxist philosopher in Latin America.” Over the years, CCP has been led by members of the Peruvian Communist Party-Unity, Red Flag, the Revolutionary Workers’ Party (POR), Revolutionary Vanguard, and the Unified Mariátegui Party.
Today, it is a member of La Via Campesina, which was a major participant in the 2025 World Meeting of Popular Movements. La Via Campesina is itself a socialist organization actively involved in the promotion of abortion and LGBT ideologies.
At the end of the “Weaving Voices for Dignity” event, participants read aloud a collective statement they created which “has been officially submitted to the Holy Father, Leo XIV.” The declaration of demands issued by participants of the meeting specifically called for LGBT “rights” and the spread of comprehensive sex education. It must be remembered that comprehensive sex education not inly involves the grave topic of human sexuality in a complete context, but nearly always includes the promotion of contraception, condoms, and even abortion.
Two of the participants reading the document were Bruno Montenegro of the Transmasculine Fraternity of Peru and Salvador Merma of the CCP. What follows are key portions of the declaration (with the beginning time stamp for each portion marked in parentheses). Note the use of words such as “dignity” and “discrimination” and remember that LGBT ideologies are intimately tied to their use of these words:
(2:34) Public declaration from the Southern Macro-regional Gathering: Interweaving voices for dignity, human rights, and the common good. Juzco Perú.
We, coming from southern Peru—Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, Puno, Cusco, Apurímac, and Ayacucho; from the coast, the Andes, and the Amazon—issue this public declaration, which captures our voices, concerns, and proposals.
We are part of Indigenous communities, social organizations, the national platform for those affected by heavy metals and other toxic substances, women’s and youth organizations, LGBTQ individuals, people with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals, families of victims of state violence, defenders of human and environmental rights, and faith communities.
…
(4:06) However, there is another Peru—one left out of the snapshot and the official narrative—the Peru of those of us who suffer historical violence, racism, and discrimination.
We await justice and reparation, or public services and opportunities that fail to reach us on equal terms. Peru is also the South.
We are united by a certainty: every person and every people has the right to live with dignity.
…
(7:03) Despite threats, we continue to safeguard life, water, Pachamama, and the community. Water supplies are dwindling; instead of being protected as a common good essential for life, water is increasingly treated as a commodity. Pollution and the loss of our water sources, together with the increasing fragility of ecosystems, put family farming and food sovereignty at risk. Faced with this reality, we demand responses that are urgent, sustainable, and developed with the participation of the peoples and communities who inhabit and care for our territories.
Our commitment as peoples. We have the right to live in a society free from violence and discrimination—women, girls and adolescents, the elderly, people with disabilities, neurodivergent individuals, LGBTQ+ people, and our families.
We want to live without fear, with equality, freedom, and dignity.
To make this a reality, we demand public policies for gender equality, comprehensive sex education in schools, and guarantees for the effective political participation of women, based on parity and alternation.
This is our commitment as peoples.
We pledge to safeguard democracy and our common goods, to support one another as victims and transform every form of discrimination, to educate new generations in human rights, to preserve our memory, cultures, and ancestral knowledge, and to keep a watchful eye on those who hold public office. We want to play an active role in building a just, more fraternal, and more humane Peru.
…
(10:43) Finally, we announce that this declaration has been officially submitted to the Holy Father, Leo XIV, via a document that captures in greater detail the sentiments of our peoples—a document to be presented during his visit to our country. We do not seek for others to speak on our behalf; we seek their help in ensuring our voices are heard and that they challenge the government, Congress, the justice system, regional and local authorities, and economic and media powers to respect human rights and international treaties and conventions, and to place the common good above their own interests.
We hope you remember those who are often left out of official narratives—such as victims, Indigenous peoples, rural farming communities, women, youth, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those defending rights, territories, and the commons in southern Peru.
We affirm this with an active hope—a hope that organizes, nurtures life, defends dignity, and rebuilds the bonds that allow us to recognize one another as equals in our diversity. Juzco Perú 2026, participants of the macro-regional gathering “Interweaving Voices for Dignity, Human Rights, and the Common Good.” Thank you.
The distinct pagan, pro-LGBT, Marxist character of this meeting cannot be overemphasized. The clergy which participated in this event MUST be investigated on suspicion of idolatry and heresy. Furthermore, this event – which was reported by the Vatican News as a preparatory activity in anticipation of Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Peru – must be fully and unequivocally condemned and the declaration issued to Pope Leo, rejected. And finally, given Monsignor Jordi Bertomeu’s role in coordinating the event and his participation in the pagan ceremony, he should be summarily and immediately dismissed from the DDF.

Panchamama papa Leo knelt during a panchamama ritual ...the photo is on the net. Leo started this whole thing on purpose . WAtchh for bishops to start calling mosquez “holy.” Folks,
the Anti-Christ has Arrived and is well.
“It must be remembered that comprehensive sex education not inly involves the grave topic of human sexuality in a complete context, but nearly always includes the promotion of contraception, condoms, and even abortion.” Is this what Catholicism is today?
A summary for Freeper day drinkers:
The article describes a Peruvian event called **“Weaving Voices for Dignity: For Human Rights and the Common Good,”** held in Cusco in preparation for Pope Leo XIV’s planned visit to Peru. According to the article, the gathering involved Catholic clergy—including Bishop Lizardo Estrada, Bishop Miguel Ángel Cadenas, and Monsignor Jordi Bertomeu—alongside Indigenous, social-justice, environmental, women’s, youth, and LGBT organizations. The article focuses particularly on an opening ceremony in which Estrada and Bertomeu are shown placing coca leaves into a fire as part of what the article characterizes as a **Pachamama “payment to the earth” ritual**. It argues that this constitutes a serious violation of Catholic teaching and calls for an investigation.
The article then argues that the event had a strong **LGBT, abortion-rights, and Marxist/socialist component**, emphasizing the participation of CNDDHH, the Transmasculine Fraternity of Peru, and the Peruvian Peasant Confederation. It cites portions of the participants’ final declaration calling for LGBT inclusion, comprehensive sex education, gender equality, and protection of Indigenous communities and other groups, and notes that the declaration was submitted to Pope Leo XIV. The author portrays Monsignor Bertomeu as particularly responsible because of his alleged role in organizing the meeting and his participation in the Pachamama ceremony, ultimately arguing that the Vatican should investigate the participating clergy and that Bertomeu should be removed from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
