🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem🇮🇱 (8/19/26)[Prayer]

Personalities

2 Samuel 6:1-23

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem

6 David again brought together all the able young men of Israel—thirty thousand. 2 He and all his men went to Baalah[a] in Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name,[b] the name of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim on the ark. 3 They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart 4 with the ark of God on it,[c] and Ahio was walking in front of it. 5 David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with castanets,[d] harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals.

6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. 7 The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.

8 Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.[e]

9 David was afraid of the Lord that day and said, “How can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?” 10 He was not willing to take the ark of the Lord to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. 11 The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.

12 Now King David was told, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. 13 When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. 14 Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, 15 while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

16 As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.

17 They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord. 18 After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. 19 Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.

20 When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!”

21 David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”

23 And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.

There used to be a popular Bumper Sticker that said:

IF IT AIN'T COUNTRY
IT AIN'T MUSIC.

I don't see that particular bumper sticker much in Massachusetts, but when I lived in the Southern part of the USA, I saw it a lot.

"Musical Snobbery" manifests itself more here in terms of Classical vs Popular, Rock vs Disco, Jazz vs Rock, and Country vs Everything Else (LOL). As soon as a style becomes mainstream, a more radical genre bursts out. This was evident back when "Corporate Rock", "Glam Bands" and "Hair Bands" got so homogenized that "Punk" and "Grunge" made their debuts. But...here's something interesting. I go to a lot of "Open Mic Nights" here in SE Massachusetts. The ages of the performers range from 15 to 85. I'm NOT the eldest either! I estimate that 90% of the songs played are from the Golden Era of Rock, from about 1964 to the 1980s. This Genre has now been dubbed "Classic Rock", and includes everything from The Beatles to The Cranberries.

I've been a Church Musician for over 40 years, and "I've Seen It All". I've learned the hard way that there will always be people who don't like my music (or ME either!), and I've grown to accept that different styles of music will always offend somebody. It's human nature, and exists in secular music as well. While some Music Directors will insist that music should only be played with written-out parts and pre-arranged beginnings and endings, others will insist that the music needs to be "organic", and be subject to the inspiration of the The Holy Spirit.

Here's where the controversy gets heated. Secular Music is INWARD. It entertains us, enriches our lives, inspires us, amuses us, helps us work more efficiently, and soothes our souls.

Sacred Music, on the other hand, is directed OUTWARD to God, rather than INWARD to our inner person. Because of this, people will often misunderstand the motives behind the music.

In at least three Passages of Scripture, a person's Worship is misinterpreted by another person as drunkenness. Hannah's passionate prayer for a child, the Apostles on the Day of Pentecost, and David's Dancing before the Ark. While all three of these expressions were totally sincere, they didn't fit the Traditional Model of Worship. The people who complained about Hannah, David, and The Apostles were all rebuked by God in one way or the other.

We may love or hate Contemporary, Gospel, Gregorian Chant, Bach Cantatas, Handel's Messiah, Christian Rock, Country Gospel, Orthodox Acapella Chant, or Wesleyan Hymns. We may have a preference for one over the other. But, the Bible has at least three Cautions against belittling some other person's way of Worshiping God.

It's Definitely Something to Think about!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Blessed Is The Nation Whose God Is The LORD (Psalm 33)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 91

1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,*
2 will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.’
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
or the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,*
the Most High your dwelling-place,
10 no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.

14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honour them.
16 With long life I will satisfy them,
and show them my salvation.

AMEN! When listening to the original long version of Brandon Lake’s “Gratitude”, in between the choruses there is a section of the song where he is full out almost vocally yelling praise, I often stop at the moment and think of David and his moment of unreserved praise and I pray for the Peace of Jerusalem. I’m grateful for the many beautiful songs and musicians that offer praise to our LORD in worship, leading us to do the same, and praying while doing so. God Bless.

I agree.

Christian Hymnody has a 2000-year-old history, and is filled with GOOD STUFF.

I love it all, but really enjoy 4 particular genres, and they are RADICALLY Different from one another.

The first is the unaccompanied polyphonic chant of the Russian Orthodox Church. I would gladly stand for 2-3 hours to listen to that music. (Not my branch of Christianity, nor my nationality, but the music really does it for me!)

The next one is Baroque. My 5-Disc CD Changer is loaded up with Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion and others of his 248+ Cantatas. The CD changer next to my bed is stuck on Handel’s Messiah.

I LOVE Black American Gospel! My first music ministry was in an urban setting, I got to hear a lot of that.

And, finally, I love Israeli-Style Praise music.

So, I’m pretty flexible when it comes to Worship Music. When I was Music Director of Biker Church, the congregation wanted to hear BLUES.

So I set the Scriptures to 12-bar blues and the band ran with it.

Go Figure!
