David Conquers Jerusalem

6 The king and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived there. The Jebusites said to David, “You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off.” They thought, “David cannot get in here.” 7 Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David.

8 On that day David had said, “Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the water shaft to reach those ‘lame and blind’ who are David’s enemies.[a]” That is why they say, “The ‘blind and lame’ will not enter the palace.”

9 David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces[b] inward. 10 And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.

11 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs and carpenters and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David. 12 Then David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.

13 After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him. 14 These are the names of the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, 16 Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet.

Yesterday I had a glorious 130-mile ride down my favorite Route 105 that meanders through Farmland in Southeastern Massachusetts. At the Ice-Cream Parlor in Acushnet, I decided not to take the left following the route, and continued on through Acushnet towards New Bedford. Although New Bedford has a National Historical Park and is a wonderful Day-Trip, it also has some very depressed areas. Unfortunately, the road past the Ice-Cream Parlor leads right into this section, and it's hard to find one's way out again!

Last night, I came across this guy's GO PRO of the same route.(40 Minute You Tube Video). The guy was riding the route so fast that I thought he had sped up the video...but no. He really WAS riding at twice the Speed Limit. He missed what makes that trip so enjoyable for me:

That ride usually takes an hour and a half. He did it in 40 minutes. He missed:

Some HUGE Lakes
The Miniature Horse Farm
the Middleboro Antique Co-op
Several tracts of Farmland and orchards
Many 300 year old cemeteries
The Royal Wompanoag Cemetery
Several Old New England Style Churches
The Equestrian School with little kids learning how to ride horses
The Mattapoisett River (a charming little stream)
The Pondorosa Bar (Biker Hangout)
The Rochester War Memorial

Then...he STOPPED at I-195 and turned off. He didn't even finish the ride! He left off the terminus of the route, which is the exquisite little seaside village of Marion, MA.

By treating this bucolic, historic road like it was the Daytona Speedway, the guy missed the whole point, and endangered himself and other people on the road. I had to laugh out loud when he missed TWO important turns, one of them at the Ice-Cream Parlor.

If he hadn't Banged-a-Yuwee, he would have ended up in the Bowels of New Bedford! Ha Ha Ha!

Some people read the Bible like that. Their only goal is to "Get Through" it. Hundreds of "READ THE WHOLE BIBLE IN A YEAR" programs exist. I have one myself, but it is in addition to my actual Bible STUDY. Sometimes, in these Reading Programs, a person gets stuck in one of those 300-year-old graveyards (the genealogies), or in a particularly depressing or violent Passage (The Bowels of New Bedford!). They take a wrong turn, and end up having to Bang-a-Yuwee. Then, like the Video Rider, they stop short of their goal and don't finish the trip.

This Thread is over 16 years old, and we still haven't explored the Bible completely. Every day we see something new. Today, we get to see how and when Jerusalem became the Capital of Israel.

David's Personality was such that, when he set his eyes upon a task, he saw it through.

He didn't stop and pull over just short of I-195.

The business of the "Blind and Lame" remark is reminiscent of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where the French Soldier taunts King Arthur from the battlements. They really used to do things like that! Bombast was a very big part of Warfare, unlike today where you just press a button and send a drone.
