[Catholic Caucus] Catholic governor met Pope Francis, then signed abortion up to birth — Excommunication?

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey signed a law that removes the requirement for specific medical justification for abortions after 24 weeks. She is Catholic. She met with Pope Francis in 2024 and spoke of caring for “the most vulnerable among us.” Now she has celebrated the expansion of abortion access up to birth.

Archbishop Richard Henning of Boston called the law a “grave offense against the sanctity and dignity of every person” and urged Catholics to continue proclaiming the value of life. But many Catholics are demanding stronger action. The Catechism teaches that formal cooperation in abortion incurs automatic excommunication. Cardinal Raymond Burke has spoken clearly about Catholic politicians who publicly promote abortion.

The question is whether the Church will hold Healey accountable or issue statements while she receives Communion. The controversy exposes a deeper crisis of authority and scandal. Politicians who claim Catholic identity while expanding abortion access are not just contradicting Church teaching — they are leading souls astray.

It is tempting...........but the Catholic Church is so disliked,
excommunication elevates her into being a revered “victim.”

A religion Massachusetts citizen? Give me a break. That state deserves “the big one” so very much more than Foreign-o-fornia.

Not sure excommunication is consistent with the Synodal Way.

Accompaniment means walking with the people who suck out the brains in case it would make them feel bad.

Maura is a lesbian in a relationship with a female attorney, I don’t think she mentioned that before the election, she has mental issues that need to be addressed or impeach her.
