Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,

How Blessed and Holy is Your Most Wonderful Name!

Sanctified,

Magnified,

and Blessed are You,

Oh LORD, Our God, King of The Universe,

Ancient of Days,

Rock of Ages!

 Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance

Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Even though Saul and his Heir Jonathan are dead, the troubles have just begun. Various factions, such as family members, disaffected soldiers and leaders from the previous regime, and tribes that had been loyal to Saul, all rise up against David. David settles in Hebron, and begins to rule from there.

David's personality is not what we had expected from the plucky little red-headed shepherd boy of our Sunday School years. Nor is he the pure god-like youth of Michelangelo's statue. He's a Middle-Aged man at this point, battle-scarred, and facing an entire bureaucracy of angry Saul Loyalists. We might find some of his decisions embarrassing, or even despicable. Some people, when first diving deeper in to Scripture, are shocked by what they read about King David. When they read about David being "a man after God's own heart", a little voice says "Yeah, but what about the time when...?. You know the rest. Some years ago I wrote an essay about the "Yeah Butts". I managed to find it and here it is:

There is a Famous World Religion with over 2 Billion adherents, whose founder was not a nice person. By his own accounts, which are considered Infallible Holy Writ, this man robbed, pillaged, plundered, raped, enslaved, tortured, and murdered people. He engaged in polygamy and married a six-year-old who still played with dolls. However, when one points these things out, the apologists for the religion point to similar misdeeds in the Old Testament.

This is a favorite tactic of the Left, and is called "Moral Equivalency". I call it "The Yeahbutts", as in: Yeah, but the Inquisition", "Yeah, but the Crusades", "Yeah, but the Salem Witch Trials", "Yeah, but the latest Megachurch scandal," and so on. I'll bet you have encountered the "Yeahbutts" many times, including right here on this website. I know I have.

Here is the solution to the Yeahbutts, at least as God has shown me in the 40 years of defending my Faith. Indeed, the OT Patriarchs did some terrible things. If you think there's a lot of sex and violence in Genesis, wait till you get to The Book of Judges. Some things are so bad that artists have decided not even to portray them. Here is the crucial difference. As we read the Bible, we see that even the Patriarchs were human beings and not perfect. They made crucial errors and sinned gravely on a number of occasions. They are not commended for their sins and have to repent.

While the other Monotheistic Religion claims their founder to be "The Perfect Man, and a Model for Behavior to this Day", we are not told by Genesis that it is OK to impregnate a slave girl and then send her and her child away. Abraham's decision wasn't righteous, because he was not righteous by himself. He believed God, and THAT was credited to him as Righteousness.

One of our own Founding Fathers allegedly did something similar, but we don't throw out the Constitution because of it.

That is the essential difference between the Q'oran and the Bible. While we see our founders with their sins and warts exposed but never justified, the Q'oran extols its founder and holds him up as a moral example of perfection for generations to come. We are sinners, saved by the immeasurable Grace of The One True God. We hold none of the Patriarchs up as sinless models of behavior, although we can learn a lot from their mistakes.

Even my favorite OT Character, the Patriarch Joseph, had a problem during his youth of boasting of his dreams to his brothers. So even Joseph wasn't "perfect". We make a fatal error when we try to idealize non-perfect human beings.

There was only ONE Perfect man, tempted in all things just as we are, but never sinned. That Man was (and still is) Jesus the Messiah.

And there are no "Yeahbutts" about that!

God Bless America.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America-250.

I remember my 6th grade teacher:

When we’d say “Yeah, But”, he’d say, “Is that another name for a Rabbit?

Psalm 91

1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,*
2 will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.’
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
or the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,*
the Most High your dwelling-place,
10 no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.

14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honour them.
16 With long life I will satisfy them,
and show them my salvation.
