[Catholic Caucus] Divine Worship Prefect Roche: “Leo will not change Traditionis or go back to Summorum.”
From his interview to British Catholic periodical “The Tablet,” the words of Cardinal Roche are peremptory:
“But no, Pope Leo is not going to change Traditionis Custodes, and he’s not going back to Summorum Pontificum.”
Meaning, the Traditional Latin Mass will remain in the Egypt of Captivity (Traditionis) and never return to the Promised Land of Liberty (Summorum).
Excerpt below (behind the paywall, but provided by our occasional contributor Matthew Hazell on X):
Cardinal Roche is 76. He is therefore past the age of retirement.

What's Leo's take on this I wonder...
Between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025, a total of 4,849 Christians were murdered for their faith worldwide, an increase of 373 from the previous year, according to the 2026 World Watch List by Open Doors.
The majority of these killings (3,490, or 72%) occurred in Nigeria, driven by Islamist militancy and organized crime. Additionally, the Vatican’s missionary agency Fides reported that 17 Catholic churchworkers (priests, sisters, and lay people) were murdered in 2025, with five of those deaths occurring in Nigeria due to kidnappings for ransom.

Of course Roche would say that. I am not optimistic, but I do not think the door is shut.
