The Presbyterian Church USA bled nearly 130 congregations and over 26,000 members in 2025, according to estimates released amid their latest General Assembly.
The theologically and politically progressive denomination lost 26,845 members between 2024 and 2025, according to a report from The Christian Post.
Its membership now stands at 1,019,003 people as of the end of 2025.

“More than 60 percent of PCUSA members are over 55 years old, and 35 percent are above the age of 70.”
And they’re all oblivious to what is really going on.
The woke are incapable of recognizing their error. They will cling to woke until the bitter end.
2 1/2% drop. not the worst thing in the world for them.
In other good news, reported attendance at PCUSA churches is less than half that;
over a third of the members are over 71. 46% of the churches have less than 50 members.
I always wondered what methodology they use to determine “membership.” I’m sure they have thousands of names of dead people, like Democrat states have on their voter rolls.
Our local church left the Godless PCUSA denomination and moved to the PCA decades ago. PCUSA has continued its downward slide ever since.
Year after year, that is fatal.
“The woke are incapable of recognizing their error. They will cling to woke until the bitter end.”
The woke are not even as aware as the Laodiceans, they are given over to an evil spirit.
However too many of the “mainline denominations” are asleep at best, or at worst follow the world of men who worship the creature rather than the creator.
They cannot ‘see’ or even acknowledge the lateness of the hour, this darkness now descending like a cloud over this entire present age.
In the Book of Revelation, Jesus said, I counsel you to buy of me gold tried in the fire:
“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” - Revelation 3:14-19
Thanks for sharing. I knew that was happening over the past few years with Methodist churches (leaving godless United Methodist denomination to join Global Methodist). But I didn't know that happened with Presbyterian churches decades ago. Was that somewhat common among Presbyterian churches like it's been with the Methodist churches?
The 2030s will look like an extinction level event for mainline Protestant churches.
40% of folks leaving say it’s because of progressives in the Church hierarchy. They are literally driving people away from Christ.
Meanwhile, re the more conservative Presbyterian Church in America (PCA):
“The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) reported 405,634 members at the end of 2025 and 400,751 members in 2024, an increase of 1.84% year-over-year.”

If the Bible is ignored, any idol will do, whether Mamdani or AOC.
About half of the extinction is from older established placeholder members dying, the other half is, as you say, those repulsed by the godless progressivism.
I think the article mentions that under 4% of very young members.
Progressivism is the off-ramp from Christianity for every congregation that adopts it.
This is so self-evident it almost doesn't need to be said. It is an embrace of practical atheism, if you listen to their poisonous new doctrine.
A local First United Methodist kindly allows my group use of their facilities for meetings and events. Same deal as these guys. I’m sure, or at least I hope, they do some stuff with respect to liturgy, but the only photos I see in the fellowship hall are collages of the congregants attending “Pride” events
We left Presbyterian USA in 2000 after me being a life-long member. It became too woke for us and I could no longer tolerate their doctrine. Our church was de-commissioned and the (very valuable) land put up for sale - the money from the sale was used for Africans in Africa. We left and never looked back.
PCUSA is Talerico’s church.
The four spinoff groups have a collective membership of about 700,000, less than the remaining PCUSA membership of 1 million. However, their demographics are generally better than those of the PCUSA. My inlaws were Presbyterians. One telling sign is that two congregations with which they were associated, both PCUSA, have not posted anything on their Facebook or websites in two to three years.
