Some of you may remember Penny-The-Pitbull (RIP), who was the dog I had before Tippy came into my life. She had a totally different personality than Tippy, or any other dog I've ever adopted. As I stated in the very beginning of this series on "Personalities", I illustrated the sixth dogs I've adopted over 50 years, and how they differed so wildly from one to the next. Here's something I wrote about Penny back in 2021:

Tomorrow is Penny's 11th Birthday, which means that she is a "Senior" in Dog Years. She weighs 70 lbs and it is all taut, ripply MUSCLE. From the day I got her, she has pulled on the leash, despite obedience training and dozens of different types of collars and harnesses. It came to a point that I was cutting her walks short because it was just too much work to get her to cooperate. Combined with aches and pains (both of us) that come with age, it was getting ridiculous. As her birthday approached, I went to the pet store to buy her a present. On the rack was a weird-looking harness, "Guaranteed to stop pulling". There was only one left (LARGE) and was half-price, so I bought it. When I attempted to put it on Penny, she looked at it skeptically and resisted. I finally got it on her and we went for a walk. And it WORKED! Even though it looks like a reindeer-harness with a metal hoop on top to swivel the leash, all the pressure was directed to Penny's massive, muscular shoulders, and she could turn on a dime. She likes it! And our walks are pleasant again.

Penny's Harness was a perfect picture of great strength held under gentle and firm restraint. Her personality, combined with her lean, muscular body, needed something to keep her civilized. The Harness, goofy-looking as it was, was perfect.

When Samson's Mom first felt that stirring in her womb, she was told by God that her boy would be a Nazirite. This was a special office of dedication, outlined in the Torah, of a man dedicated to God by means of a vow. This vow usually had a finite time period, and, for the duration, the Nazirite was to abstain from alcohol, not shave his head, not touch corpses, and adhere to other outward signs of his dedication (Numbers 6:1-21). Samson's Vow, however, was for LIFE. His mighty strength was to be kept under the restraint of his dedication to God.

Samson knew that his strength was the result of the Vow, but he seems to have forgotten the "Dedication" part. Killing the Lion was self-defense, but EATING honey out of the Lion's Rotting Carcass?

That's Just Nasty!
