Bishop Schneider: ‘Remarkable number’ of Church leaders have ‘lost the faith’

The fruits of the loss of faith among clergy are a ‘tremendous general confusion, obfuscation, darkness regarding doctrine, morals, and liturgy,’ Bishop Athanasius Schneider said.

Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Astana, Kazakhstan, said that a “remarkable number of high-ranking clergy” have “lost the Catholic faith.”

“They want another Church: half-Protestant Church, half worldly, adapted to the impression of the world,” Schneider told Catholic writer and podcaster Matt Gaspers during a larger discussion about the Second Vatican Council and the Society of St. Pius X.

“There are a remarkable number of them over the past 60 years. They have influence in the Church … They’ve promoted (t)his with interior conviction, a desire to really change the Catholic faith, to adapt it completely to the world, and to have a new religion which is relativistic, a kind of syncretism,” the bishop said.

The time frame he specified points to the conclusion of the Second Vatican Council in 1965 as a turning point for the apparent orthodoxy of Catholic leaders. Indeed, Schneider has openly criticized Vatican II and the loss of clear, traditional teaching – and faith – in its wake.

Schneider said that it is “difficult” to ascertain which clergy members have the attitude to “change the Catholic faith,” but that we can declare the result the “fruits”: “A tremendous general confusion, obfuscation, darkness regarding doctrine, morals, and liturgy.”

During the interview, Gaspers and Schneider agreed that Vatican II itself was problematic due to its ambiguous statements that may be interpreted in a heretical manner.

Gaspers asked Schneider why the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) is being asked by Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), to unconditionally accept Vatican II as a condition for being deemed “Catholic.”

The bishop pointed out that past popes demanded the same thing from SSPX founder Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. Even to ask one to say Vatican II is consistent with tradition is to ask for “violence to your reason” or an “exercise of mental acrobatics,” Schneider said.

In fact, Pope Francis, like Pope Leo, has presented his doctrinally “questionable” innovations as a “development of the teachings of Vatican II,” the bishop pointed out.

But we see it is a disaster. If the fruit are only confusion, ambiguity — how can ambiguity (be) the voice of the Holy Spirit?” Schneider said.

That’s what sin can do to “church leaders” IMHO.

Did they have “faith” to begin with?

I needed some sort of meaningful change inside me to ‘get the faith’ to begin with.

RCINC is the oldest most profitable multi national corporation on the planet. Notice how RCINC cries poverty, but is able to hire $600 per hour defense attorneys to smear the victims of their employees sexual abuse, (aka priests)
