DC archbishop removes chief exorcist over claims that UFOs are demonic

The Roman Catholic archbishop of Washington, D.C., removed an archdiocesan exorcist and severed ties with his nonprofit organization on Wednesday after he went viral earlier this week for expressing his opinion that most UFO encounters are likely demonic.

Monsignor Stephen J. Rossetti, a psychologist and priest of the Diocese of Syracuse, New York, who served as an exorcist in the Washington archdiocese for 19 years, was removed by Cardinal Robert McElroy for "linking UFOs to demonic presence," according to a statement from the archdiocese.

McElroy, who has faced scrutiny and criticism for his own views on Catholic social teachings and handling of clerical sex abuse cases, also said Rossetti's comments and the recent social media use of his organization, the St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal, "gravely undermine the Church's very precise teaching on the devil, demons and exorcism."

Rossetti drew attention earlier this week when he joined the growing chorus of Catholics and other Christians claiming that UFOs are often linked to demonic and occult activity, warning his listeners to avoid unhealthy interest in such phenomena by keeping their focus on Jesus Christ.

In a brief video that first appeared last Friday on Rossetti's YouTube channel and has since been made private, the monsignor noted belief in extraterrestrial life is theologically neutral, but warned demons can masquerade as aliens or other strange creatures in an attempt to deceive.

Exorcist Stephen Rossetti: "Most UFO sightings are likely Demons" ????????

A Catholic Priest for the Archdiocese of Washington, he explains that demons hide to manipulate us more effectively. "Demons like to hide. They don't want us to know they're out... they can kind of get into… pic.twitter.com/qrbt7I3WzI— Interstellar (@InterstellarUAP) May 31, 2026

"But there's a danger here ... as an exorcist, I wanted to raise that danger: and that is that demons like to hide, they don't want us to know they're around," he said. "They don't want us to know what they're doing because they're more effective when we don't realize it. And they can kind of get into your head ... and manipulate things in the world to influence us to do evil."

Rossetti stressed in the video that he was not speaking on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church, but rather expressing his own opinion based on his experience in ministering to those who have suffered demonic affliction.

"There's no question in my mind, personally — again, this is not de fide, but it's my personal belief — that probably many, if not most, of these UFO sightings are, in fact, demons; and they can do things that we can't do, such [as] the speed and all sorts of things that human beings can't do."

After his removal, Rossetti posted a statement on the St. Michael Center website, asking for forgiveness while noting he was saddened by the archdiocese's decision to cut ties with his organization that helps those being demonically oppressed.

"I ask forgiveness for any ways that I have not been faithful to the teachings of the Church's Magisterium, particularly in the cited video on 'aliens and the demonic,'" he said. "I believe it is of the utmost importance to be obedient to the Church and I will continue to endeavor to subject all that I do and the Center to be thus obedient."

Some Catholics on social media questioned Rossetti's removal in response to an X post of the archdiocese's announcement, which was deleted Thursday following backlash.

Daniel O'Connor, a Catholic author and philosophy professor, described Rossetti's ouster as "outrageous," writing: "Msgr. Rossetti is absolutely correct, and 100% in accordance with Catholic orthodoxy, in his linking UFOs to the demonic. Cardinal McElroy has committed a grave injustice here."

"How does linking UFOs to demonic presence 'gravely undermine' the Church's teachings on the devil and demons?" asked Stephen Leary, a Catholic author. "That statement needs to be backed up and I'm not seeing it here. I was under the impression many Catholic theologians have made the same assertion."

"Agree or disagree with Msgr. Rossetti's statement, it's hard to see how it even slightly, let alone gravely, undermines Church teaching," said Thomas Mirus, editor-in-chief of Catholic Culture.

"Seems like there's some demonic influence within the archdiocese. I'm shocked," said Terry Schilling, a Catholic who serves as president of the American Principles Project.

Rossetti's views about the potentially occult nature of UFOs and aliens have been echoed by other Catholic clergy, including Father Chad Ripperger, who serves as an exorcist in the Archdiocese of Denver and has done multiple high-profile interviews on the topic in recent months.

Some occultists have also historically linked UFO phenomena to ritual sorcery, such as the late British ceremonial magician Kenneth Grant, who was the secretary and protégé of the infamous occultist Aleister Crowley. In some of his books, Grant attributed the wave of UFO sightings beginning in 1947 to a series of rituals conducted the year before by NASA rocket engineer Jack Parsons and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.

There are approximately 150 exorcist priests in the United States. They are overworked and overbooked.
Father Gabriel Amorth and a few others....

“The finest trick of the devil is to persuade you that he does not exist.” — Charles Baudelaire

An average person would have no ability to tell the difference between a demon and a supposed “UFO/alien.”

So if a demon can make you think he is actually an extraterrestrial, so much the better for him. in that case, he will certainly try.

I heard a theory that the deceased family and friends one sees in near death experiences (when you pass through a tunnel of blue light) are also demons.

Their message is often anti-Christian New Age stuff. "There is no judgment, all religions are one, all spiritual paths are valid, we must learn to forgive ourselves, etc."

You come back believing you're just fine the way you are, no need to change anything.

I’ve done many exorcism over the past 30+ years.

Yes, I have encountered alien beings, of which there are many different types.

The primary demonic aliens I have encountered have the big football shaped eyes. Keep in mind that when they attach to a human, they have no physical body of their own and exist as consciousness. In this case they are only one aspect of consciousness, i.e. masculine logical, and do not have the feminine aspect. They also have no love.

They are creating imbalance in humans that shift human souls into a dominant feminine emotional consciousness. This opens the door for the aliens to move in and attach as the logical aspect of Consciousness.

This is the basis for Jesus’s parable of the weeds or tares hiding in the wheat field.

They are doing this as their half a soul (masculine only) is like half a bean seed and can’t sprout and grow.

These aliens are difficult to detect as in their darkness they do not generate much energy. They actually suck soul energy. This is why my room gets freezing cold when higher demonic beings approach me. ( The only protection is to turn toward God in Prayer. )

“I heard a theory that the deceased family and friends one sees in near death experiences (when you pass through a tunnel of blue light) are also demons.”

That was my experience during my NDE. They exist in the layer of darkness that exists between the earthly consciousness and Heaven. Some religions call this dark layer the “bardo.”

The tunnel that souls pass through is actually a portal through this layer of darkness.

The light at the end of the tunnel is the Light of Heaven shining down on us to guide us home.

I have been through this many times, both in my own NDE’s and with others during hospice work where through prayer, I assist people in crossing over and go through the experience with them.

This is the same layer of darkness that must come to earth (as described in Revelation) before Heaven comes to earth.

Hugh Ross is convinced both that space travel beyond the solar system is impossible for terrestrial beings, and that little green men are demons.

So basically, that part of the Catholic leadership (at least in that diocese) wants to hide the truth. Interesting.

That Archbishop doesn’t agree with the Monsignor and removed him from the office of exorcist.

That can mean literally anything on the Archbishop’s part, so your speculation “wants to hide the truth” is just one of many possibilities. It’s better not to speculate when there are such a lot of possibilities and very little way to validate any of them

Angelic beings DO NOT need spaceships.

Being a demon means being a deceiver.

UFOs and aliens are a great way to convince humans that God and the Bible are mere stories told by our ancestors to explain natural phenomenon.

Aliens are not discussed in the Bible. Therefore if aliens exist the Bible does not truly describe creation and the world as it exist.

A demon does not need a spaceship but it doesn't follow that it would not create the illusion of a spaceship for its own purposes.

Rossetti drew attention earlier this week when he joined the growing chorus of Catholics and other Christians claiming that UFOs are often linked to demonic and occult activity, warning his listeners to avoid unhealthy interest in such phenomena by keeping their focus on Jesus Christ.

Considering the vast yearly output of videos and print material generated on the subject of UFOs, I think that the demons are very successful in distracting people from the truth of Jesus Christ.

Nope, I disagree, more then enough scripture to make it clear they are demons. A person of such high rank in the church should know this if the are indeed saved.

Never go to a religious leader to learn anything about science.
This Pope can barely figure out there are only 2 genders.

Matthew 13

“Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”

37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.

40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.

I pray for this persecuted Priest. That this evil be rebuked away from him. That he can stand strong in the knowledge of the truth.

This is not merely some disagreement between good people having a difference of opinion. This is being attacked by the UFO cult worshipers having their cunningly devised fables being exposed.

They are triggered because of this being revealed by someone in a role of authority who knows the truth.

If you speak truth to a cult, their members will jerk away, lower their eyes, recoil, and behave in exactly the same angry manner. They will become triggered when you explain what is being seen is not ‘settled science and two trillion galaxies of alien life’ visiting us and then silently ‘watching’ us all on the Earth. (Read Daniel Chapter 4 for the ‘Watchers’ from Heaven)

Stephen Greer, Lou Elizondo and Steven Spielberg are the wannabe false prophets of the (new) new age religion of the UAP. They are triggered when someone suggests experiencers are witnessing a spirit world deception manifesting near them, and especially having stronger encounters around those seeking it out, engaging with it, summoning it to their back yards.

We could not expect to find a more blatant demonic manifestation of the evidence of what they are, than to have orbs appearing at (3 AM) the 4th watch of the night. Anyone ever experiencing demonic activity for themselves will never believe this lie.

“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: . .” - 2 Thessalonians 2:11

The truth will always offend those given over to evil:

“And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” - Matthew 24:10-11

These are unclean spirits seeking authority and embodiment, to manifest, to be summoned into our presence. A cunningly scripted myth offered up as some form of ‘truth’ available to be watched in 4KHD IMAX, with ouija boards and new age crystals available for purchase at the concession stand:

“For we have not followed cunningly devised fables when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.” - 2 Peter 1:16

Signs in the heavens,

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring.” - Luke 21:25

Satan as the Prince of the power of the air is preparing the world to willingly receive his angels.
