God's View Of Healing

People have a lot of different ideas about healing that are not scriptural. And sometimes people hold fast to ideas because of tradition, but what good is a tradition if it's not based on the word. Mark 7:13 says, Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. So, let's see what The Bible shows about healing so we all can be on the same page. Some people actually think it's wrong to go to God for healing, people have told me that's just using God, if He wants to do it then He will just do it. OK, let's look at that theory because if you think it's wrong to go to God for healing then it could be a hindrance to you receiving. In Psalm 103:2,3 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases. Look at that the scripture calls healing a benefit, not something that's wrong to receive.

In Matthew 15:28 Jesus made a statement to a woman that still holds true today, But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. He called healing the children's bread, it's every child's right to be fed, you shouldn't have to beg to be fed. If God is your father, if you are a child of God then healing is your right. In Acts 10:38 it says, How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. So, whoever came to him he healed, he never turned anyone away. In Luke 13:16 after Jesus healed a woman on the sabbath day and the ruler of the synagogue was upset Jesus said, And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

Notice, Jesus didn't mention anything about her church attendance, nor her character, all he mentioned was her being a daughter of Abraham. Her being a seed of Abraham entitled her to healing. That's good news to everyone that has received Jesus, because Galatians 3:29 says, And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. So, that's still God's attitude today, so be encouraged for He is not holding it back. God wants you to have it that's why James 5:14,15 says, Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Look at that Paul said, "Is any sick among you," he didn't put a limit on it, it's for every child of God. Understand one of God's covenant names is Jehovah Rapha-The Lord our healer, healing is not just something He does it's His nature.

That's not just a name it's what's in Him to do. When Jesus came to the earth he went around healing, but then he commissioned the 12 disciples to go out and heal and then he commissioned 70 others to go out and heal. It looks like to me healing is a big deal to God. And even now in Mark 16:17,18 it says, And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. It still looks like healing a big deal to God and still his will. So, if God doesn't see it as an issue why would anyone else see it as an issue, that doesn't go with the scriptures. He even has supplied us with medicine for our healing. In Proverbs 4:20-22 it says, My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. That word health is translated as-medicine, healing, remedy, cure. Notice, find out what the word says and keep it in your eyes, ears, and mouth and it will bring healing to your body, it did for me so I know. God is a healer, He always has been and always will be because it's His nature, a good father.

It is not God's will that any should perish. And I wouldn't want to end this article without giving someone the opportunity to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. It's very easy just pray: Dear God- I know I have sinned and I now turn from them and I invite Jesus to come into my heart (Revelation 3:20). He died for my sins and you have raised him from the dead and I now confess Jesus is my Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9,10). I thank you for saving me, Amen

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12). 1 Timothy 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. Romans 5:8-10 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. [9] Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. [10] For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 2 Peter 3:9 King James Version 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

From everything Jesus told us, it seems God WANTS us to ‘use’ Him.

Thanks for posting.

My observations from Scripture and experience about healing (part Bible geek, part testimony). I studied it intensely during most of my teens and twenties when I had an incurable illness. (Yes I typed "had" as in past tense.)

1) Lot's of times when Jesus healed someone He'd say it was to show His glory, often times to others besides the person being healed. Matthew 9:6 AMP -- But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority and the power on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralytic, “Get up, pick up your stretcher and go home.”

In other words, it may be best to think of healing as beyond just the healing itself, but to further Jesus' kingdom.

2) 1st Corinthians 12-14 is 3 consecutive chapters on miraculous spiritual gifts, including the gift of healing. My cliff notes version is that, if being healed is similar to the gift of healing, don't forget love above everything else, and it's about edifying both the individual and the people around you.

Details: Chapter 12 lists the gifts, says that the Spirit gives different gifts based on His best decision (not ours), and that we're not to rank ourselves or each other on who has what gift (my cliff notes summary). Chapter 13 puts heavy emphasis on love. Then chapter 14 emphasizes both tongues and prophesy with more value to prophesy because it edifies the people around you (though tongues edifies the individual, which has some worth). Even though chapters 13 and 14 didn't mention the gift of healing, I think it best to remember all of the chapter 12 gifts while seeing how tongues and prophesy gifts are analyzed in chapters 13 and 14.

Also, even though I was looking for healing, not the gift of healing, I thought it best to look at the gift of healing too to get a fuller picture of Jesus' healing in general. I needed healing and wanted to know everything Scripture said about it.

3) Finally, never forget John 17. Admittedly not about healing. But as I'd been praying for most of my teens and twenties to be healed from the incurable illness that was slowly getting worse and projecting to kill me or debilitate me by my 40's, I was losing faith. Then a prayer book pointed out in John 17:20-21 that Jesus prayed for us, His future believers. And His prayer didn't have a tone of desperation. It almost has a name-it-claim-it tone. In other words, Jesus seemed to believe what He was praying like it was already a done deal, long before we were born. What was it about? That we would be one, and be One with Him and God.

That changed my praying. I prayed for God's Spirit to help me be part of His glory, whatever that looked like. Even if folks thought less of me, as long as they think more of Him. And, oh by the way, heal me from the illness that's supposed to kill me. I can be better and getting glory for Jesus without that.

I prayed that for weeks. Maybe a month. And my doctor said, "We're looking at a miracle of God!!!"

What traditions about healing do people have (I'm assuming you're talking about Christians) that are not scriptural?

Often overlooked.

Psalm 103

2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;...”

Two distinct promises, to forgive your sins AND heal you of all disease....but only if you believe it. Many believe the first, but have doubts about the second- don’t.

God wants his Children to have absolute dependency upon him for all things. Absolutely all things.
