Our Father, Who Art in Heaven

There is ONE NOTE in Fur Elise that, for some reason, everybody plays wrong. I played it it wrong (substituting an "E" for an "F") for nearly thirty years, and, since nobody corrected me, practiced it that way until my fingers just went there by default. It wasn't until I actually READ the Sheet Music (I could play anything by ear, so who needed notes?) that I realized my mistake. I had to FORCE myself to correct it. Then I found out which students were playing by ear and which ones were actually READING the notes from that single note in that particular measure.

This is because our ears logically want to got to the "E". It's the way the underlying chords want to resolve. But that's not the way Beethoven wanted it to go. He does the same thing in the First Movement of Moonlight Sonata. The first time I played it by actually reading the NOTES, it was different from the way I had memorized it. OUCH! Now I had to learn it all over again and retrain my fingers to go to the right places. I shoulda done it THAT WAY in the beginning!

Moses, as we have seen, had a ferocious temper. It would be his undoing with regards to entering the Promised Land. As we discovered, it was probably for the best that he disappeared into the desert, but I'm sure he was disappointed.

The old Sunday School joke about Moses breaking all TEN of the Commandments at the same time was sadly true.

The other side of Moses was his extraordinary LOVE for his people. Many times he would intercede for them with God, even offering himself to save them. More than once, God threatened to wipe everybody out and start over with Moses. It was here that Moses great love came through, as he argued with God that such an action would prompt the world to say that God led the People into the desert just to kill them all. He reminded God of His Promise. He pleaded for a Second Chance for his people.

The Second Set of Tablets was that Second Chance. This time, however, they would be put in a nice, safe place, the Famous Ark of the Covenant.

Moses would have to think twice before smashing them up again.
