🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem 🇮🇱(5/13/26)[Prayer]

A New Study For A New Year: Personalities

Deuteronomy 6:1-25

6 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:

2 That thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.

4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:

5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

10 And it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,

11 And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;

12 Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

13 Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;

15 (For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

16 Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

18 And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers.

19 To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the Lord hath spoken.

20 And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded you?

21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:

22 And the Lord shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:

23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

24 And the Lord commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.

25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.

( The King James Version)

Last Night, as I was teaching, I smelled the unmistakable fragrance of Home Baked Bread. (Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm) After the Lesson, the Mom ( a New-Ager), gave me some to sample. Oh My Goodness, it was Soooo GOOD! I sat and munched the bread as she waxed rhapsodic about her recent trip to Egypt. She visited the Great Pyramid, the Valley of the Kings, Karnak, Boat Trip down the Nile...everything that has been on my Bucket List for 65 YEARS. As I was finishing up the delicious bread, and wrapped up a loaf to take home with me, she proudly declared:

"I used 100% Organic Flour and got the Sourdough Starter in CAIRO!"

Now, I know for a fact that Kosher Bakers take a pinch of dough and throw it in the fire, as an acknowledgment of giving the "First Fruits" to God. That's what it means when you see the note "Challah is Taken" on the packaging. Did the Muslim Bakers in Cairo have a similar custom? Was I eating "food sacrificed to idols" as described in the Book of Acts? A wave of horror washed over me. What if the Starter had been sacrificed to the gods of Ancient Egypt by some New Age Baker? It was weird since we're studying the Story of the Exodus, and Moses in particular right now.

The wave of horror was quickly replaced by Paul's admonition to receive everything with Thanksgiving, and, if offered a gift of food, DON'T ASK. So I didn't! But, when the lady offered me some Starter to bring home to bake my own bread, I politely declined, saying that my favorite thing to make for dinner is:

"RESERVATIONS".

Egypt has had a close and uncomfortable relationship with the Nation of Israel and Her people for 6000 years. In the very early years of Abraham's Calling, (Genesis 12) there is a famine in the land, and Abraham and Sarah go to Egypt. There, they immediately get into trouble with the king by claiming Abraham were sister and brother rather than husband and wife.

When Sarah has difficulty conceiving, she gives her Egyptian Maid Hagar to Abraham, and that leads to BIG trouble. Then, of course, there is the epic story of Joseph, leading to the entire family ending up in Egypt, the subsequent years of bondage, the Passover, the Exodus, and the Journey to the Promised Land.

In the time of the Kings of Israel there are skirmishes back and forth with Egypt, but King Solomon takes a bride from the daughters of Pharaoh, so there is still a link. We may wonder why Egypt doesn't have more about the Hebrews since there was so much interaction, but it is well known among archaeologists that the Ancient Egyptians erased and defaced any inscriptions or statues of people they didn't like or wanted to forget. (Kind of like the "Ministry of Truth" in George Orwell's "1984")

Moses, however, remembers Egypt very well, and is meticulous about not bringing any "Sourdough Starter" into the Promised Land. That was the whole symbolic point of the Unleavened Bread of the Passover. A little bit of Starter can leaven bread for Generations. Just a tiny pinch of it leavens the whole lump of dough, and a pinch of that lump leavens the NEXT batch.

We see this in the Golden Calf Incident, the Constant Complaining, and the Idolatry even generations after the years of slavery in Egypt.

Jesus distilled the Entire Law of Moses into two Commandments:

1. Love God with all Your Heart,
and
2. Love Your Neighbor as you Love Yourself.

Everything Else hangs on these two, and are beautifully articulated by Moses in this Famous Chapter of Deuteronomy.

Jewish People pray this Chapter the way Christians say The Lord's Prayer. They know it by Heart.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Psalm 91

1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,*
2 will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.’
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
or the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,*
the Most High your dwelling-place,
10 no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.

14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honour them.
