It’s been a while since I’ve written a Progressive Christianity Watch. I have a trio of doozies for you today, so enjoy.
Let’s head over to Houston, where Rev. Lura Groen, a woman pastor (shocker) preaches at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, which is part of the far-left Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She’s also an “out bisexual.”
Did you know that God has a crush on you, likes to flirt with you, and thinks of you as a pet? That’s how Groen “interprets” the Bible.
So goodness and mercy can chase you, can consensually pursue you, can delightfully flirt with you, can want to be close to you for your whole life.
Those — Some of those were my translations. I see a couple people looking, "It doesn't say flirt with you." And no, it does. That is Pastor Lura’s. But it's Pastor Lura’s biblical interpretation because there's plenty of other places where scripture uses that language, that God is just head over heels in love with us.
God is head over heels in love with us. God has a crush on you. Did you know that? I talked earlier about how God might look at us as pets and think we're adorable and delightful and watch us the way that we watch cat videos online.

Oh, and by the way, “Goodness” and “Mercy” aren’t concepts or qualities for Groen; they’re God’s lesbian angels.

This woman has a real problem and I wouldn’t call that damn place a “church.”
Christianity is just heading back to its pagan roots.
You know, I’ve noticed even in rural churches, the new gospel songs they want folks to sing are ... weird. More like love songs, like you’re under God’s balcony wooing him with flower and song, cooing over and over “You are worthy, You are worthy, oh how I love you!” I went to my mom’s church with her a few times and thought, “Dang, should we bring a box of chocolates too?” It’s very odd.

Ok, have you heard the song that is sang even in Traditional churches and in many hymn books entitled : IN THE GARDEN?
It was written over a hundred years ago at the turn of the 20th century.
It was supposed to be a reflection on Mary Magdalene’s witness about the resurrection of Jesus at The Garden Tomb. Here are the words of the first verse:
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear
Falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses
And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am his own
And the joy we share
As we tarry there
None other has ever known
I found the lyrics of the first verse to be similar to a courtship song.
It’s not a modern phenomenon.

The ordinary fleshly music loved by the world, especially the thumping, humping rock and rap cultures, can never be the vehicle of a Biblical saving, sanctifying message advertising the kind of "Christian" one has become.

I was fed up with “gospel songs” at the church that I was run off because I refused to subscribe to their Arminianism. Charismatic Worship is far worse.
I was fed up with songs they sing from Hillsong, Elevation, and Bethel, while primarily relying on Universal Music Group for church material. Now these same churches are buying material from the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, which denies the inerrancy of Scripture. The CBF’s Mercer University acquired Universal’s choral music division in 2023.
Yeah, I remember that song. These are a little more pointed, and in First Person, like “You are my everything, I wanna sit at your feet, Drink from the cup in your hand, Lay back against you and breathe, Feel your heart beat, This love is so deep, It’s more than I can stand...” I don’t know. To me they sound like... a bit much.

I spell “Sodomy” with a capital-S because it is the name of a religion.
It is sad.
This was the entire church service Sunday, from the Lorenz Group. This was at 10 AM on a Sunday morning. Bibles closed, this is what they did — all entertainment. I contrasted that with the church I attended Sunday where the teen choir was singing serious material. There is a reason why too many fail to see what is being taught to children and “burnout” from that.
