🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem 🇮🇱(4/30/26)[Prayer]

A New Study For A New Year: Personalities

Numbers 20:1-13

20 Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

2 And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3 And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the Lord!

4 And why have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?

5 And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto them.

7 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

9 And Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him.

10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

12 And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

13 This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the Lord, and he was sanctified in them.

( The King James Version)

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our God and Heavenly Father,
How Holy is Your Name!
Thank You For Your Deliverance,
From The Slavery of Sin and Death
From The Dark Night of Unbelief,
And From the Clutches of the Enemy of our Soul.
Thank You for Loving Us
Just as We Are.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

”The Greatest Of these Is Love.”

If you would like to be on or off the Daily Ping List, please let me know.

Usually, I can sing while playing the bass. Most bass lines are fairly simple, stay on the beat, and provide a frame onto which I can hang the lyrics and melody. Sometimes the bass line contrasts with the vocal melody, but that can usually be managed as well. An example of that would be "Riders On The Storm" by The Doors. The Bass line is iconic, runs counter to the melody, but I can still sing it.

Just recently, a student asked me to teach him "Money" by Pink Floyd. The bass line is demanding, but not impossible. The problem arises when attempting to sing the song while playing the bass at the same time. My 73-year-old brain CAN'T Do It.

The Time Signature of the bass line changes from bar-to-bar, and the vocal floats over it. First its in 7/4 (not a typo), then 8/4, then 6/4, and back to 7/4 again. Of course, I could just play it without singing, but the student needs the vocal cues to make the rhythmic changes. (Who says Rock Music is just Three Chords in 4/4 Time???)

Anyway, I got SO Frustrated that I said a bad word. During a Lesson. In front of a Student. That has never happened in the quarter century that I've been teaching. I was SO ashamed. (It wasn't even "THE" bad word, just the word for a natural byproduct of digestion).

I turned bright red and stammered my abject apology.

The student was unfazed, and suggested we do a different song.

"How 'bout something by METALLICA?"

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. that's even worse.

I used to have an explosive temper, but that seems to have "burned out" in my later years. I attribute that to The Holy Spirit, who has tempered my reactions to things. The inspiration came when I began to NOT take everything so Personally. Pink Floyd didn't design that bass line to trip me up in a lesson. The circumstances of life do not conspire to destroy me. It just seems that way sometimes.

Because of Moses's personality, he took everything personally. When God chose him to do a task, he complained that he wasn't capable. When people murmured against him, Moses went to God and complained "Did I CONCIEVE all these People?" This occurs a number of times in the Torah, and, if we accept that Moses himself was the author, then we see that he knew what his weakness was, and struggled to overcome it. When we get to Deuteronomy, the beginning of which is written in the first person, we gain a lot more insight into Moses's interior struggles.

But why was this transgression at Meribah so egregious that it canceled Moses's passport into the Promised Land? I didn't get fired for cussing in front of my student, which seems even worse. Hitting the Rock worked once before, and the People were being SO OBNOXIOUS. Moses had taken care of all these people for over 40 YEARS. Wasn't that worth SOMETHING?

A Christian Interpretation of this event states that The Rock represented the Messiah. Just as the Rock was only to be struck once, Jesus was "struck" (killed) Once And For All. After that, we are only to Speak to the Rock, and out from Him comes Living Water.

There are other theories. Some say that, if Moses had died in The Promised Land, his body would have been enshrined and cause the people to idolize his relics. Moses had to "pass on" where nobody could ever find his body.

This isn't far-fetched, as we shall see in the next few days how a bronze relic becomes an idol.

Now I have to practice singing "Money".

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

I can sense Moses’ frustration!

Thank you for today’s lesson, ML. Joining all, in prayer.

Good luck with your vocals practice.

Amen to your word and prayer. Moses struck the rock, rock n roll music, the irony of it all.

the first air guitar solo

Sorry, I couldn't help it.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Good lesson on a picture of Christ, which Moses messed with.
