Five years ago, Nazlican Soylemez had little connection to religious life.

A random discovery in her Jersey City neighborhood changed everything. An avid reader and aspiring nurse, Soylemez, 31, was perusing a "Little Free Library" kiosk near her home when she spied a tiny paperback titled "Jesus Lives."

The pages of that Christian devotional book would carry her on a journey toward Catholicism.

Soylemez is among 1,700 people in the Newark Archdiocese scheduled to complete her conversion to Catholicism this Easter weekend.

She and other spiritual newcomers will be confirmed and receive the Eucharist inside the ornate sanctuary of Holy Rosary Church in Jersey City. At an Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday night, they will be officially welcomed into the Catholic

This weekend, the Catholic Diocese of Trenton expects 1,095 newcomers, the Camden Diocese will gain 239 adherents and the Paterson Diocese 177, according to church officials. .

Dioceses around the country have also reported a spike in interest. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles expects to welcome more than 8,000 converts this Easter while the Diocese in Washington DC will welcome 1,755 new Catholics.

Overseas, the Archdiocese of Westminster, England, has reported a 60% increase in conversions over last year, with 800 adults set to join the church on Easter Sunday. The Archdiocese of Paris similarly announced that it will welcome its largest-ever group of converts, with 788 entrants this spring.

When Soylemez found "Jesus Lives," she had just moved to the U.S. from her native Turkey. The aspiring nurse was busily chasing her dreams. But as she struggled between school, a part-time job and a fizzling romantic relationship, she felt alone. She found solace in Christ's teachings.

"It felt very personal," she said of the book's passages. "I think I was yearning for something."

There is a new trend to turn to Christianity everywhere!
There were record Catholic conversions in France, Britain, in the USA, and really everywhere.
There are also record conversion among Evangelicals.

Christianity in NOT dying as predicted by some, but rising again strongly.
When God is with us, who can be against us?
Thanks God!

Imho, Christianity should not be the la-la soft touch that was made in the 20th century when laity and clergy thought it would be better to be “softer”.

people don’t want that - we want to be challenged, we want to have a priest who comes out and challenges us to look at ourselves in relation to Christ. We don’t want soft cushioned seats to sleep on, but we want rigor
