I wrote this three years ago, and a lot has changed since then. The shop where I used to consign is long gone, but I've gotten my own Stereo System since then, and still go "a'huntin' fer vinyl" regularly.

For over five years, I have had a little "Vintage Vinyl" consignment going on at a music and menswear shop nearby. Although I make a little bit of money, the joy is in "The Hunt". Miles of riding through rural Massachusetts, digging through boxes at thrift stores and barn sales, and the final triumphant entry into the store with my booty have become part of my "Joie de vivre". Ian, the shop-owner said that every time I come in, it's like a ray of sunshine. That made me feel so good! Because of my age-group and my life as a Boomer Musician, I know exactly what records will sell and what ones to leave behind.

It seems that the younger generations have become so tired of the awful "music" emanating from the Establishment Media, that they are making a U-Turn back to Classic Rock on Vinyl. The Establishment Media is now trying to cash in on this trend by reissuing the best iconic albums on this Vinyl and charging more for them.

Of course, not everybody has been able to preserve Daddy's stereo system to play this new vinyl on. And so, some enterprising folks in Massachusetts have gathered together the old guys from Route 128, the "Technology Highway" ( Bose, AR, Kurzweil, Moog, Sounddesign, Tweeter, Tech-Hi-Fi, etc) to make brand-new Analog Stereos and Turntables for the new and vintage vinyl. They are greatly reduced in size but still sound awesome. The name of the company that made my wonderful new turntable is "U-Turn"! It is a brilliant name for the company, for several reasons:

1. Route 128 is a beltway: That means that you travel a very long way before you end up very close to where you began. You are, in effect, making a U-Turn.

2. Turntables: Well, yeah. Turntables turn around and around.

3. The U-Turn: The Technology (Analog), Medium (Vinyl), and even the Music (Classic Rock) have all taken a U-Turn.

Anyway, I wish I had thought of that! Somebody is an incredibly smart guy!

Both the Hebrew and Greek words that are translated "repentance" imply making a U-Turn. As anyone from Boston knows "Banging-a-Yuwie" (especially on Route 128!) will get you in a heap of trouble. Relatives and Friends will have a hard time understanding your U-Turn, and might even criticize or ridicule you. Some might even try to imitate your joy by manufacturing something that looks like it, without making the U-Turn themselves.

At this point in our Story, Jacob is taking a massive U-Turn that has taken over Twenty Years (Sometimes Route 128 FEELS like that!). His U-Turn is Physical and Emotional, but there needs to be a third element in it. That would be Metanoya, which is the Greek Word that means a whole change of his MIND. We call it Repentance.

Jacob knows instinctively that he can't just show up and say "Hey, guys, I'm HOME!", but he's still trying to manipulate the outcome. He rehearses his speech, divides up his family, and prepares a huge gift (bribe) to appease his brother. Jacob is still being JACOB.

Then, in the middle of his plans, he finds himself wrestling with God. Of Course God can just ZOT Jacob on the spot, but, instead, lets him wrestle with all his might. Finally, there's a breakthrough, and Jacob has his "U-Turn" Moment. He will forever walk differently after this encounter, and he is given a new name.

"Israel" means "Wrestles With God", and implies a deep, intimate relationship that can't be mimicked with art or technology.

Amen to your word and prayer. Yes it is quite a strugle at times to yield to God. It is a strange scripture unless you realize he is battling his own determined will, prayed so hard he thru his hip out, but yes, some how God’s spirit or angel was there in human form.
