🇺🇸Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem 🇮🇱(2/19/26)[Prayer]

A New Study For A New Year: Personalities

Genesis 27:30-49

30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

31 And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.

32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy firstborn Esau.

33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.

34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

35 And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.

36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;

40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.

43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;

44 And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother's fury turn away;

45 Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?

46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?

Everlasting and Almighty Father,
We come before You with Praise and Thanksgiving in Our Hearts.
For You Alone Are Worthy of Worship,
Which is The Sacrifice of Our Lips.
Great and Glorious is Your Most Holy and Wonderful Name!
Rock of Ages,
Ancient of Days,
The All Sufficient Master
and Lord of The Universe,
Nothing is a Surprise to You,
For You See All Things
From The End to the Beginning
And from the Beginning to the End.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Over the Centuries, a lot has been written about Esau. There's more speculation about Esau's Personality in the Commentaries than there is in the Bible. The comments about Esau range from him being totally evil to a more nuanced version who ends up reconciling with his brother. (That comes YEARS later, though.) Most Bible Illustrations depict him as a big, lumbering, hairy, redheaded oaf, but that couldn't have been the case because the Bible describes him as a "cunning hunter". You don't catch much deer clumsily crashing about the forest. Even if he was big and hairy, he must have also had qualities of stealth and skill.

Esau also exhibited impulsiveness and the need for Instant Gratification. While these qualities may contribute to successful hunting, they don't help at all with Family Relations. His impulsiveness didn't serve him well at all when he was hungry after a poor day of hunting, and sold his Birthright for a bowl of soup. Seriously, wasn't there any other food in the camp? He couldn't wait another ten minutes to raid the fridge?

Esau's reaction to Jacob's deception is particularly telling. At first, he cries with rage, and begs his father for a Blessing. Then he vows to murder his own Brother. Jacob has to flee, and both Isaac and Rebecca know that they may never see him again. This is Sibling Rivalry to the MAX.

After many years, Esau is reconciled to his brother, but while Jacob is gone, Esau has his own family with his wives that his Mother Rebecca can't stand. (One wonders if Esau's choice of brides was an act of rebellion)

Esau's Descendants were called "Edom", and they had a complex relationship with Israel for millennia. One could even argue that the Present-Day Nation of Jordan carries a remnant of that complex relationship.

The Opening line of the great Russian Novel Anna Karenina states:

"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way"

The Story of Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, and Esau illustrates that in its Own Way.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

”Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3 NIV)

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

I’ve seen commentary that King Herod was of the line of Edom. In the New Testament, the line of Esau and Jacob came face to face. Herod-Jesus. And Jesus had nothing to say to Herod.

I’m going on a tangent here—

Jesus, the Son of God, was crucified, dead, and buried, and rose on the third day, seeing not corruption.

In Acts, Herod accepted the praise that he was a god. He was smitten by worms and died on the third day, seeing corruption.

Psalm 91

1 You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,*
2 will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.’
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
4 he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
or the arrow that flies by day,
6 or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
or the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge,*
the Most High your dwelling-place,
10 no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.

14 Those who love me, I will deliver;
I will protect those who know my name.
15 When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honour them.

Amen.

Father, keep us from choosing the screams of our flesh over things that would give us a greater measure of our inheritance.
