All the discussions about whether or not Lot was a righteous man can be summed up in one sentence from Today's Reading:

And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

God saved Lot out of the midst of the fiery furnace, not because Lot was "better" than anybody else. God, through His Grace and Mercy, saved Lot because Abraham had prayed for him, and God remembered Abraham. Lot didn't deserve to get saved, but then again, neither do any of us. Pastor Jerry(RIP) of my Biker Church in Florida put it this way:

Mercy is when God doesn't give me what I deserve.
Grace is when God gives me what I don't deserve.

Some people, like Lot's wife, are offered this Grace and Mercy but choose to look back with longing on their life of sin.

To this day, near the Dead Sea in the reputed site of Sodom and Gomorrah, there are salt formations that are an eerie reminder of the cost of refusing so Great a Salvation.

Lot’s Wife obviously held on to bad intentions. Sarah also Laughed at one point!
One must consider The Goodness and Severity of A Holy God.

Giving thanks to God for His grace and mercy! It’s amazing. Wouldn’t Grace and Mercy be great names for two daughters? Even in Spanish, beautiful: Gracia y Mercedes.

One of the things I look forward to knowing more about is the circumstances of Lot’s wife becoming a pillar of salt. This has intrigued me ever since first hearing the biblical account.
